FortKnox's Journal: Roasting the Circle... and some vacation & workstation pics 27

Journal by FortKnox
After the whole Bethanie flame war, and her 'roasting' take on it, I thought it might be interesting to actually 'roast' (like the 'Friars Roast') someone in "the circle" here.

Does that sound intersting?
Would you join in to roast someone?
Would anyone like to step up to the plate and be roasted?

Oh, btw - I didn't finish my vacation pics and stuff, so I put up a little page that has a couple of VERY recent pics of me, joey, and my computer (since I couldn't join the workstation-contest, cause the boxes that were surrounding my computer would give it away).

Roasting the Circle... and some vacation & workstation pics

  • if you don't mind waiting until I finish the playwriting competition, I'll gladly be the first
    • as I was saying before I had a braincramp and hit submit:

I would love to hear what you guys really think of me and I'm sure some would love the chance to openly say what's on their mind. So, are there any particular rules of engagement? I bet when I turn on my web cam for the next two days it will give people lots of ammo (as if they needed more). We were joking last night that listening to you would get me in trouble, looks like I can do that by myself! ^_~
  • Feel free to roast away, and I'll gladly return the favor. =^)

And, cute pictures! (Umm. The kid, not the computers.)
  • i vote Em, Because he deserves it. I think he has earned our recognition, and I'd like to be the first to slap him on the back and let him know what his polls mean to us, let him know that we hear it when he tells us about the clueless wonder from Hotlanta, and let him know that we are laughing our asses off at him. I mean, with him.

I second it, and I nominate myself to write it.
      • be my guest guys.

Be sure to include things like:

Hey Em, Leno called. He wants his chin back.

Didya hear the one about Em and the chicken?

I hear he's still taking feathers out of his shorts.

Ok, that was short notice, and most likely blew really bad....but I'd love to be roasted. Go for it.

Just bear in mind all "your momma" jokes will be taken with some anger since I feel speaking ill of the dead is wrong. thanks.

Is yo daddy up for grabs? I prefer to only say things about those targetted. Although making jabs like "I'm sure your parents are proud..." I still enjoy.

Did you ever post pictures though? I don't recall seeing your chin. It is possible I just blocked the traumatic experience of viewing your chin, however.
  • Roaster or roastee.
    Set it to flambee.
However, that being said, we have to agree that this is all in fun. No flameouts.
Wit can be mistaken very easily, especially in a roast format.
Maybe eugene_ts_wong could moderate? Either him or gmhowell. They both seem to have personalities that could work well as emcees.
    Just my $0.02
    • I'll emcee if anybody wants, but this whole concept is new to me. I'll look over Bethanie's journal but whatever.

I'd also like to join in once in a while, to be on the giving end & the receiving end. But then again, I'd probably get carried away on the giving end. If I'm on the receiving end, then I'll give everybody a little amunition to get them started.

I'm laughing already. I agree with what you said about being all in fun. As annoying as the worst of us may be, I'd hate to loose you all as friends

I like the Baby Bjorn, we have one of those and it works really well.

As far as the roasting goes.. I guess if it's done in "good fun", but I have a feeling things could easily get out of hand.

Now a pig roast, on the other hand, would be great. let's all meet at your new digs! :)
  • But you can roast me. I have a really good sense of humour, and am perfectly capable of laughing at my own stupidity (and do so often!)

  • This online character analysis lark sounds to me like something strictly for those who spend too much idle time near to a computer. Besides, it's still only your opinion, no matter how much 'evidence' you may have to back it up. I like to make up my own mind about people I correspond with online, thanks, and I've been using e-mail, Usenet and websites long enough to have met the whole gamut of online folk, from stumbling newbies through regular joes to the out-there nutjobs.

  • A roast sounds interesting, but have you thought about how you would encourage not just "you suck" posts of lameness? If you put forth some ideas that would make this seem more funny, more interesting, more insightful, and less flaimbaitish trolls I would love to participate in some capacity. I just don't want to get into a flamewar over some nice person we all like here, and I don't want to be remembered as the one getting "roasted" with just an on-going, nearly-hof-setting flame war.
  • ... should be spontaneous. You can flame me all you want, usually I give up first if there is no new argument to be added to the conversation. At some point in time reason says that it has no sense to go on, and you just part in peace.

Anyways, perhaps a poll for Em: What kind of flamewarrior are you? [winternet.com]

    • I have to agree with jaw on this. The most fun is when the comments come spontaneously.

I would be happy to be roasted some more -- I don't think anyone has really made a decent attempt yet.... But as far as roasting others... well, I'm just not very good of thinking up zippy little tweaks about most of the people who've volunteered here thus far -- on a personal level, y'all seem like pretty great people to me.

Now, slip up and say something stupid, and I'm all over you like white on rice. The best way t
      • I have to admit that I mostly like your humour. You see, you seem to have a halfway funny reply to about any topic. That is a great quality.

y'all seem like pretty great people to me.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't be so sure about that. We all have our little arrogant sides (heck, I have a very big arrogant side!). Now, you seem to like Xerithane, so do I, but he is a real flame-king. I like reading his journals, but you know that he's going to take the most arrogant path possible whatever you say. On top of

        • you seem to have a halfway funny reply to about any topic. That is a great quality.

It's called being a smart ass. If you think it's so great, you should be married to one. And I'm not talking about me -- I'm talking about my husband. Think I'm bad? He's worse!

Also avoid political discussionns... Religion can be quite a hot topic too

Actually those two topics are ones that I *do* try to avoid -- with the obvious exception, I guess, of feminism. In my estimation, politics and religion are matters of de
          • It's called being a smart ass.

Oh, and what is wrong with that? I'm a known smartass... Didn't you notice?

Only when it will be funny.

You cannot tell in advance... Some conversations can turn quite wry or cynical fast. If you mention girls to me for example :-(((

Oh well. I've put in one response. I'm just pondering how in-depth I need to go, and whether it will do any good or not, ya know?

I saw that, but I expected more from you...

I just clicked on the pix (coping with dialup, sometimes you miss things on the first go-round). Adorable little guy (sincerely!)!! Your wife must be *gorgeous*!! *rimshot*

Does that count as my flame for the day?

    ....Bethanie....
  • ..as the cannibal said...

But you can roast me if you want; I'm sure that there must be something funny and vicious to say about me, and since i'm new i'm less likely to be mortally offended. For example, my tendency to not capitalise the letter i, which is because other pronouns don't get capitalised, & i prefer to be consistent. I'm sure i can come up with something to say by looking at other people's journals/comments, but i'm likely to cushion it with a genuine compliment or two...

  • roast me if you want, but you don't need a specail JE to do it.
  • Wow. I loved the Gateway 2000 monitor you have there. It brought back so many memories of when Gateway was a decent company. (And to make yall feel old, that was when I was in intermediate school)
