Star Craft 2? Nope

  • I am not much of a gamer (I actually have more fun writing and playing my own games) so I don't know if the following exists.

    It seems to me that a combo RTS/FPS game could be a lot of fun. There could be multiple players on a team. One plays the game as an RTS, allocating resources and sending troops into battle. Others play as the troops themselves, running around being more effective than the AI troops surrounding them. This idea first came to me while playing "Spaceward Ho!" on the Mac. The colonization portion of the game is pretty fun, but the battles are somewhat dry. I thought it would be fun to actually fly around in the space battle and help out rather than watch a bunch of ships line up and shoot each other. Of course this would be an RTS/Space Shooter. Maybe someday I will write that game....

    • Yeah, I've thought of this myself.

      It looks like Natural Selection [natural-selection.org] (A Halflife mod), may have this type of idea.

      Also, Tribes had similar functionality. The only problem is getting your troops to actually obey your commands...
      • It's a great concept. Really, Penny-Arcade introduced the idea to me first, and now, I can't get it out of my head. If someone could pull it off right, it would be ... revolutionary! Blizzard could do it, and Starcraft is the perfect setting. Oh well.
