My first freak! And a comment on moderation...

Both are related to this comment: #11630402

My first freak is Walles (99143) as a result of that comment! :)

Maybe it's because I made indirect fun of lythander (21981) and disagreed with b-baggins (610215), in the same story. Both are his friends.

*shrug*

As for someone moderating my comment troll, here's Wiki on trolls. Last I checked, disliking the opinion in a comment does not automatically make it a troll.

I relate all this not because I really care, but because it's all highly amusing. Karma-stalking or not? Make of it what you will... :)

    • Actually, I like that idea. Mess with 'em a bit that way. Far as having an opionion, well, yeah, that'll happen when you get a room full of headstrong geeks in the same place. People like me will disagree with people like them, or people like you, or both. Big deal - hardly worth doing a releationship change for.

I don't have anyone listed as "foe" or "freak", and I'm pretty loose with the "friend" tag - if someone says something particularly interesting, I'll add 'em as a friend... but I just can't see
      • That's a good idea. I might just do that.

I don't really see any reason to automatically mod someone down unless they post a lot of complete crap (and I mean completely pointless, not just stuff I simply disagree with), and that's the only benefit I can see from putting someone on my foe list.

Of course, the only time I pay much attention to comment scores when I read articles is when I have mod points. Other than that, what's the point?

There do seem to be people who take it seriously though. Absolutely mi
        • Right. As I see it, mod points aren't to be spent on "I disagree with you", that's what a reply is for. Mod points are supposed to be, in my opinion, to improve the signal:noise ratio of the posts that are seen by others. So, bring more attention to the good ones, and give less attention to the ones that detract from that which is Slashdot. Often when I'm metamoderating, I'm forced to agree that, yes, that is an interesting point, but wow, I disagree with the point they're making. But, to be fair, it _
  • And I just used a couple on your comments. Look at my JE's & comments - I been facing the same wall as you...

What in god's name is a "Freak" anyway? I have seen this fer years.

    • Okay, friend and fan are linked, and foe and freak are linked.

A friend is someone you determine, and a fan is when someone puts you on their friend list.

A foe is also someone you determine yourself, and a freak is someone who has you on their foe list.

And I just took the AC's advice in this thread and made Walles my friend. :)
