Global BGP issues due to Juniper bug-> 3

Submitted by
FST777
FST777 writes "Many folks around the globe report Level 3 was down, however, the cause might be even more global. Apparently, a firmware bug in JunOS 10.3 (and possibly also 10.2) caused many, many Juniper routers to reboot upon an incoming BGP update (which might have been crafted to do just that).

Needless to say, all Juniper routers disappearing from the global BGP tables has quite an impact."

Enviromental DVD wrecks Apple drives->

Submitted by
FST777
FST777 writes "The British Mail on Sunday has published it's latest DVD giveaway on the EcoDisc, a DVD-format half as thin a easily bendable that is supposed to be more environmental-friendly than regular DVD's. Despite the clear warning ("No Apple slot in drive") some Mac users dicided to give it a go, resulting in a damaged drive.
From the article:

The EcoDisc's manufacturer, ODS, insists the disc won't break drives. "We've produced over ten million of these discs — we've had less than a dozen phone calls," says managing director, Ray Wheeler. "There are ways to get the discs out."

Wheeler says the problem stems from Apple's slot-loading drives. "It uses an ejection system that doesn't get approval from the DVD Forum." He claims the EcoDisc should work in other types of slot-loading drive, although admits that it hasn't been tested in the PlayStation 3.

FST777
FST777 writes "CNN reports that Linden Labs released the source code for their client under the GPL. From the article:
Second Life creator Linden Labs on Monday released the source code for its virtual world client under the GNU General Public License (GPL), a move the much-buzzed-about company hopes will entice a flood of developers to help improve its access client.
...
Linden Labs cast its open-source move as unavoidable for software creators. "We welcome the inevitable with open arms," the San Francisco-based company wrote in its corporate blog.
Let's hope this means that Second Life will become mature on other platforms as Windows and OS X."

iPhone launched (by Linksys)

Submitted by
FST777
FST777 writes "RegHardware is telling us that the long-awaited iPhone is there. The thing is, it's not made by Apple. It seems that Linksys wants to ride the hype that people have expected to end today. Linksys is using a convenient slogan on their site: "More than just talk".
iPhone is the new brandname of an already existing line of VoIP products. From the article:
That line-up includes not only a couple of new models but five handsets that have been on the market for some time. The latest phones include the $200 802.11g WLAN-connectible WIP320 and its CIT400 $180 dual-mode DECT and Skype product. Both are available in the US immediately and will ship in other territories during Q1 2007.
So, let's fire away at what the new name of the new Apple phone will be!"
