While that's sort of a flamebait topic, there is at least some truth to the concept. I saw an interview with some subsistence farmers once for whom Bono had been campaigning to "save their indigenous lifestyle" or something like that. And their take on it was, what you call a lifestyle, we call poverty.

It should be up to each culture to decide what elements of modern life they want to incorporate and which elements of their traditional life they want to preserve. Now, as for what the Aboriginees think of the changes in their society, I have no idea; I don't know any.

It really makes me wonder just what constitutes a botnet. After all, large numbers of computers contributing to torrent downloads are a form of bonnet also.

The main thing I could see them making sense for is replacing helicopters for following suspects if on a chase (a drone would be a lot cheaper and you could have a few engaged). But there are of other valid peaceful governmental uses of drones:

* Surveying the city. You could use them to get an idea of what areas of town needed more work than others. You could do weekly flyovers just to see if streetlights were out in an area. You could build up a highly detailed aerial map of your city/county/state and then let the people make use of that data to make cool mapping products.

* Work in tandem with other sensors to get video on an area where needed ASAP. Video of traffic accidents moments after they occur (or any sudden drop in traffic speed). Video of an area where gunshot detectors picked up shots.

I don't at all understand the concern over drones, they are simply cameras that are more mobile than traditional surveillance cameras. Are people concerned with drones also concerned that police cars have cameras in them?

Obviously if you included weapons on the drones that's a whole different matter, but I've not heard anyone say they are considering weaponizing them.

Again, any argument that the Southern Strategy is racist against blacks is inherently flawed when the Republicans enjoyed a massive increase in the black vote because of it.

ntil the Republican party adopted the Southern Strategy in the 70's to win over the racists

It's absurd that the Wiki page you link to labels the "southern strategy" as racist - when the main thing that entailed was Republicans advocating for states rights! The article tries to paint that as pandering to "scared white people" but if you even thought for a second about what it actually meant, you'd realize that stronger states rights means more control for blacks than whites in the south where the black population is a majority, since after all they could vote at that point... That is how Nixon managed to get a high percentage of the black vote. Think again, WHY would black people vote for Nixon in large numbers were he pandering to racist whites?

That whole article is a prime example of how Wikipedia tilts so far towards Democrats it's horizontal.

The Republican party used to be basically like the Democratic party was today.

Not at all, things are still as they were. Democrats still seek to keep "lower classes" like the black minority groups down, by keeping them addicted to government handouts and assistance.

Affirmative action is another example. It is basically a declaration that the specified minorities are inferior and cannot help themselves. When you expect less from people you get less, which serves no-one well.

As far as I can tell, Republicans are still the only major party offering true equality and freedom from racial discrimination.

It is rather funny that the black population continues to vote in large numbers for Democrats, at this point it's a combination of Stockholm Syndrome and very advanced propaganda from Democrats parroted and amplified by much of the media. Looks like the racists won after all.

Never. Just look at Venice.

And they *will* be flooded. Maybe not this century, but AGW will not magically stop in 2100 if we continue to emit lots of CO2.

Even IF that were true (and revised predictions reveal the dramatic rise in sea levels were utter bunk) it would not matter, because if the seas really did start to rise in a serious manner mankind would be able to apply some technological fix to the problem. They have before and they will again.

You are talking about something 90 years hence, when the world will be sporting unimaginable abilities thanks to technological advancements.
