Playstation 3 code signing cracked for good!-> 1

Submitted by F-3582
F-3582 writes "The PS3 has finally been cracked wide open! The secret code signing key has finally been discovered. Or as Marcan42 tweets:

“FWIW lightning talks tomorrow are at 11:30-13:45. PS3 demo will be 4 minutes _somewhere_ within that range (to be determined). They can try to whitelist every existing piece of official PS3 code... but good luck with that. IOW they CANNOT change keys or fix this in a new firmware, because stuff we sign is every bit as good as existing official software. Wii fakesigning vs. PS3 epic fail: Wii issue is a BUG in console code (fixable), PS3 issue is a FAIL in THEIR secret signer (not fixable).”

Racing Games Cause More Aggression Than Shooters!->

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "Games are bad, mkay? Especially first person shooters have been always the target of populist right-wing politicians, as well as publicity-whoring federal prosecutors. However, according to a recent study 'racing games cause more agitation and aggression in players than shooters'. The scientists had created a face-off between Project Gotham Racing, a 3D Ping Pong game and an un-named First Person Shooter, all being played on the Xbox360. According to the article, 'PGR caused the greatest change in heart rate and brain activity, while the FPS caused the smallest change'."

Medical Representative "Training" Video Le

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "Ever wondered why medicine was that expensive while there are good cheap alternatives? One part of the equation are people called "medical representatives", but could be as well described as "drug dealers" — people who visit your physician in order to convince him/her to prescribe "their" drugs. And apparently they are really good at it. One of the videos intended to train their convincing skills has now been leaked to the public and gives some disturbing insight in how doctors can be manipulated. See for yourselves."

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "Now that the streamlining process inside Yahoo is finally leading to a mass exodus of execs and the stock has plummeted it might be the right moment for you to abandon the sinking ship, if you've been actually working there. To aid you in the process there's the DIY Yahoo! Resignation Letter that will make it a cinch getting yourself out of there. Just select the appropriate text blocks, add your name, a proper greeting (e.g. 'Whatever, douchebags,') and click on 'Submit'."

PayPal Account Freeze Causes Majr Setback for MAME-> 1

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "Things are looking grim for the popular MAME project aimed at preserving the arcade games of our past: PayPal has frozen the accounts of The Guru and confiscated approx. $5000 of funds which had been donated recently in order to strike a special deal aimed on dumping a large number of heavily protected MCUs.

This sounds awfully similar to the ScummVM case. And a few others."

Second Order Against WikiLeakS Bound to Backfire!->

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "I just found this interesting article on the Wikileaks blog about the Bank Julius Baer trying to shut them down, but I'm too lazy/tired to write anything about it. Basically it is about the second restraining order (basically an amendment of the first) against Wikileaks which is so overly broad that it might even affect Julius Baer's very own websites, email traffic and corporate communication. It could result in juliusbaer.com becoming de-listed, as well."

14-Year-Old Hacks Tram System Into Train Set

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "By modifying a TV remote a 14-year-old boy from Lodz, Poland, managed to gain control over the junctions of the tracks. According to The Register the boy had 'trespassed in tram depots to gather information needed to build the device. [...] Transport command and control systems are commonly designed by engineers with little exposure or knowledge about security using commodity electronics and a little native wit.' Four trams derailed in the process injuring a number of passengers. The boy now 'charges at a special juvenile court of endangering public safety.'"

IT Security Tests Outlawed in Germany!

Submitted by
F-3582
F-3582 writes "German Bureaucracy has jumped the shark once more! In an overly-broad "Anti-Cyber-Crime Amendment" passed by the German Parliament against the recommendations of numerous experts and companies, four days ago, "developing, programming, passing, distributing and acquiring software that is able to penetrate a computer from the outside is considered illegal". A few people don't seem to like this..."
