+ - Microbial fuel cells power SUV->

Submitted by Eternauta3k
Eternauta3k (680157) writes "Researchers on the Geobacter Project have developed microbial fuel cells, employing bacteria which oxidize organic matter and deposit electrons in an anode, creating an electric current. Their innovation lies in transfering electrons directly to the electrode, increasing efficiency and reducing the need for toxic electron shuttling compounds. The devices they've powered with this technology so far include a calculator, a timer and even an SUV."
