Sounds like a project for the economic stimulus package to me. 100 ships, crews of 30 or so, that's employment for 3000 persons for 2 years.

Yes, a wiki-like system with authenticated users is exactly what I meant. I thought that point was obvious and didn't need to be mentioned. I certainly was not advocating a base install of MediaWiki and turning the Deputy Director Skinner and asking, "Can I have my 100 million now?"

Thanks for taking a critical but honest look at the licenses. I agree that they're really short and easy to read, and I personally found that refreshing and a big step in the right direction.

Does code access security give you what you want for sandboxes? Go ahead, take 13 minutes, watch the video, read the transcript, get a feel for what's going on.

It's not like the sandbox isn't there, folks.

As you might imagine from my username, I've thought about this issue a fair amount. I think it's simply that we're exposed to the raw, un-spellchecked ramblings of computer programmers at a higher rate than those of non-computer people.

The computer-literate might have more math than language skills; and they're also the ones filling websites, email lists, (and especially Slashdot) with their musings. The English majors and other more literate types are using the Web too, but perhaps with fewer, more considered posts.

Just a theory, though.
