Submission + - "Pissed off" WoW gamers turn to DoS attacks ( 2

mask.of.sanity writes: Irate online gamers including those from World of Warcraft are taking revenge on rivals by launching denial of service (DoS) attacks to disconnect them, according to an Aussie ISP .

Gamers craving vengeance, yet powerless to best their virtual opponents, are using infamous DoS attacks to pound their targets’ Internet link with traffic until it is rendered useless.

The ISP says gamers use their faster and larger Internet access links to disable the slower connections of their rivals, "sometimes to show-off — to say ‘my connection is bigger than yours’.”

The ISPs’ security manager says he sees one attack, usually a gamer, about every three weeks.

“A World of Warcraft gamer might have pi**ed off someone who decides to take them offline with a DoS [attack],” he said.
