"Facebook Credits, announced after the news of Facebook Gift Shop being shut down in August, is being made ready for the public this September. The credits will initially be good for online games, yet they also plan to allow purchase of physical products. Jonathon Lyon, social media strategist at marketing agency Wunderman, said brands would find the best opportunity if the currency is used in Facebook Connect. “The real opportunity is within Facebook Connect. If it can integrate with that, it will mean a much broader network of sites can implement the currency. With other virtual currencies that have real world physical good transactions, it seems there needs to be tradable assets across markets (i.e. Linden Dollars and LindeX). Will this allow people to buy a new fashion outfit from Perfect World to trade for bonus points in Mafia Wars? Seriously, what about taxes in the global market?"Link to Original Source

"Activision's Modern Warfare 2 sells 4.7 million units on its first day. Comparably, "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen," the top movie of the year at the box office and on DVD, opened with $220 million in its first weekend, and sold 7.5 million DVD and Blu-rays, in its first week. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" still has the top opening weekend of any pic to date with a $394 million worldwide haul."Link to Original Source

"Erin Halasz and staff wrote about the interview between Wikileads and Jason Safoutin (Wikinews editor). If the e-mails and other evidence in this interview was more available earlier, the EFF might have seen this in the same way as the telcom immunity deal. Did Mike Godwin seek good-faith immunity (47USC230) in the Bauer vs. Wikimedia case? An excerpt of the article at Wikileaks:
If this was not an action of the foundation," Safoutin wrote, "why would a contributer (Brian), who has been on Wikinews longer than me and about the time it started, write a concerning e-mail to all these people (Godwin, Sue Gardner, Jay), saying that Godwin TOLD him to delete BOTH articles saying 'Mike has got me to effectively perform office actions and delete two articles in the past day or so?'""Link to Original Source

"Need a reason for extra cores inside your box? How about faster graphics. Unlike traditional raster GPUs, raytraced graphics scale with extra cores. Brett Thomas writes in his article Parrallel Worlds on Bit-Tech, "But rather than working on that advancement, most of the commercial graphics industry has been intent on pushing raster-based graphics as far as they could go. Research has been slow in raytracing, whereas raster graphic research has continued to be milked for every approximate drop it closely resembles being worth. Of course, it is to be expected that current technology be pushed, and it was a bit of a pipe dream to think that the whole industry should redesign itself over raytracing." A report by Intel about Ray Tracing shows that a single P4 3.2Ghz is capable of 100 million raysegs, which gives a comfortable 30fps. Intel further states 450 raysegs is when it gets "interesting." Also, quad cores are dated to be available around the turn of the year. Would octacores bring us dual screen or seperate right/left real-time raytraced 3D?"
