Many DirecTV users with the Hughes boxes are experiencing outages. This
issue began over the weekend as the receivers would reboot at random
intervals. Currently, some
people (myself included) are getting a reboot every
10 minutes or so. According to the response to a call to DirecTV
support, they are aware, and working on the issue, and are offering
refunds for any downtime.

It seems that DirecTV users [satelliteguys.us] with Hughes boxes, the older GAEBOA models, are experiencing [dbsforums.com] severe outages. This
issue began on January 17th and was likely due to a software download/update. The receivers
reboot [dslreports.com] at 5-25 minute intervals and sound is affected. According to the response to service calls and other sources [satelliteguys.us], DirecTV
support is aware, and working on this widespread issue. No, this isn't the first time [slashdot.org] a DirecTV software update has wreaked havoc...
