So, let's see we are now almost at the age where a Speed Camera can issue a ticket to a AutoMate car? Seriously, if we could just wait a few more years till the machines get a bit more advanced I think we should just trust our whole global defense systems to them... I'm sure there isn't a likely future possibility where this ends badly... :) P.S. I think my AutoMate car just ran over john connor... F the Future of mankind!

Out of Egypt Censorship, US Tech Export Under Fire 217

AndyAndyAndyAndy writes "After it was exposed that American firm Narus had sold Egypt the Deep Packet Inspection equipment used to spy on and censor its citizens, the US House Committee on Foreign Relations held a hearing where Reps. Chris Smith and Bill Keating 'grilled Deputy Secretary of State James Steinberg on the sale of this Internet spying technology to an Egyptian Internet provider controlled by the Mubarak regime.' It seems there is now a push for stronger controls and monitoring for technology exports 'that would provide a national strategy to prevent the use of American technology from being used by human rights abusers.'" Several readers have noted that Hosni Mubarak has now stepped down as president of Egypt. Control of the country's affairs has been passed to the high council of its armed forces, which has some journalists and bloggers worried.

DarkWyld (772153) writes "What has the state of Super-Hero's on television become? Is The Cape seriously what we are left with? Maybe I am being a bit harsh but this seems to be more about a man in heavy make-up attacking people with a robe. Can Stan Lee at least open a can of fresca whoop ass on these people? Or is it really just time to accept that comics are so mainstream its just lame to even go near them? And in case you didn't catch here's a website that reviews the pilot."

An anonymous reader writes "Researchers from the School of Science at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Bindley Bioscience Center at Purdue University have developed a novel approach to automated detection and classification of harmful bacteria in food. The investigators have designed and implemented a sophisticated statistical approach that allows computers to improve their ability to detect the presence of bacterial contamination in tested samples. These formulas propel machine-learning, enabling the identification of known and unknown classes of food pathogens."

tekgoblin (1675894) writes "A company called VIOlight has recently released the first phone sanitizer that uses UV light. This comes with a sigh of relief as studies have showed that smartphone screens harbor up to 18 times more germs than a toilet. Even TUAW reports that iPad, and iPhones harbor a ton of bacteria and germs and should be cleaned regularly."
