Slashdot alternatives?

Seriously, my patience has a limit and after this article, Slashdot just crossed that limit. I dont want to deal with Hemos' sad sense of humour. Coupled with the fact that the site still fails to render properly on mozilla from time to time, still has a broken and blatantly abused moderating system along with retarded and incompetent admins, I wish to know if there are any sites like Slashdot just without the retarded admins.

Thank you in advance,

- Seth

  • Fort KNox is coding up a slashdot alternative as we speak.
  • Well, there's always Fark or TotalFark [fark.com], but the people there seem to want to flame more than have rational discussion, and not much of anything tech related is posted on the front page.

Dotproject [dotproject.org] isn't really all that active, but posts articles more relating to Windows/Linux Software than anything else.

Freshnews [freshnews.org] is kind of like the Fark of the tech world. It takes articles from Slashdot, C|Net, and other websites and offers the links up. I don't think the community interaction is quite as large, though.
  • You can give a try to NewsForge [newsforge.org] (again, an OSDN site) for news, or kuro5hin [kuro5hin.org] for community discussions. Beware that kuro5hin does not always take up technical discussions, though you may also find even compiler related discussions there.

  • It'll suck to see you go, dude. Keep me posted on where you are next. Slashdot's treated you like shit as I've seen, and that sucks.

Too bad I can't help with a search for an alternative.
  • I've heard a bit of talk about Bruce Perens' [slashdot.org] Technocrat.net [technocrat.net]. He describes it as being like slashdot but more technically oriented, and without anonymous cowards.

The criticisms of it is that it is using a much older version of slashcode. The journalling system is supposidly very primitive, and you can't fried/foe someone unless they've written in their Journal.

I haven't checked it out yet myself. I probably will soon. It would be nice to go without the ACs, but I really like the friend, and even more th
