Verizon vs. the Needham Fire Department

Submitted by
netbuzz
netbuzz writes "Odd disagreement. At issue is whether — or not — there was a minor fire in a house on Pine Grove Street in Needham, Mass., caused by a Verizon employee drilling through an electrical main. Everyone agrees that whatever happened — or didn't happen — was indeed the fault of the Verizon employee; it's "fire or no fire" that is at issue. Verizon says no fire, not even smoke. The Needham Fire Department begs to differ. New eye-witness reports are emerging ... and it's not looking good for Verizon.

Cross-platform Microsoft->

Submitted by
willdavid
willdavid writes "By John Carroll (ZDNet Blogs): Microsoft, apparently, is helping the folks at Mono to port Silverlight to Linux. This is good news, as the primary fear I've heard from developers is that Silverlight will be locked to Microsoft platforms and products. Microsoft has already committed to supporting Silverlight cross-browser on Windows, and has a version that runs on Mac OS X (which is even available from the Apple web site). The last step is Linux, and Microsoft is working with Novell and Mono to make this happen. http://blogs.zdnet.com/carroll/?p=1737"

RIAA Short on Funds? Fails to Pay Attorneys Fees

Submitted by
NewYorkCountryLawyer
NewYorkCountryLawyer writes "Can it be that the RIAA, or the "Big 4" record companies it represents, are short on funds? It turns out that despite the Judge's order, entered a month ago, telling them to pay Debbie Foster $68,685.23 in attorneys fees, in Capitol v. Foster, they have failed to make payment, and Ms. Foster has now had to ask the Court to enter Judgment, so that she can commence "post judgment collection proceedings". According to Ms. Foster's motion papers (pdf), her attorneys received no response to their email inquiry about payment. Perhaps the RIAA should ask their lawyers for a loan."

Blogger finds Y2K bug in NASA global warming study 11

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "According to the article at http://www.dailytech.com/Blogger+finds+Y2K+bug+in+ NASA+Climate+Data/article8383.htm a blogger has discovered a Y2K bug in a NASA climate study by the same writer who accused the Bush administration of trying to censor him on the issue of global warming. The authors have acknowledged the problem and released corrected data. Now the study shows the warmest year on record as being 1934, not 1998 as previously reported in the media. In fact, the corrected study shows that half of the 10 warmest years on record occurred before World War II."

Lack of Bourne Ultimatum Game a Good Thing->

Submitted by
eldavojohn
eldavojohn writes "Gaming companies seem to be seeing the light in regards to games spun off of movies. It used to be that you would watch a movie and game released side by side only to have the game be a game you've already played with a different skin or an utter waste of time with no replay value. But game companies are changing their strategies due to the fact that this is becoming harder and harder. A chief creative officer at Vivendi said, "Games for next-generation consoles take longer than movies to make — two years and sometimes longer. We knew we didn't have enough time to build a quality 'Ultimatum' game and come out with it at the same time as the movie. So we decided to do things differently, something new.""

Wii firmware 3.0 released adds usb keyboard suppor 1

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "According to IGN, "3.0 and is available in Europe, Japan and the States right now. While most of the updates are fairly minor, they all help to make the overall Wii experience a little bit smoother and more user-friendly.Changes include a digital clock on the Wii menu, the Forecast Channel displays the current weather in its little window, message board has a special "Today's Accomplishments" message to show what you've played and address book entries can be moved around with the Wii-mote.Meanwhile, the Wii Shop has had a sleek makeover, which changes the way Virtual Console games are ordered. A new welcome screen now shows four recommended titles and then once inside the Shop there's a list of popular titles, the ability to search for a game, a genre category and a category that organizes entries by the original publisher. However, if you've illegally modded your Wii to play import games or copied titles then be warned. Before you update your firmware a message from Nintendo reads: "If your Wii console has an unautorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console." Looks like Nintendo is clamping down on modders. More here: http://wii.ign.com/articles/811/811064p1.html Nintendo has also quietly added usb keyboard support more here : http://randomnintendo.com/?id=2559"

Crash IE6 with Single line of Code 2

Submitted by

ashwanigl writes "From I'm Mike: A Japanese blogger who goes by the name Hamachiya2 has discovered a single line of HTML and CSS that crashes IE 6. The line is: <style>{position:relative}</style><table><input></ table> click here to try it out. The code is rendered correctly in Firefox, Safari and Opera (didn't get a chance to try any other browsers, but presumably they work too). But in IE 6 it raises a fatal error in mshtml.dll. Here is the link to the main story."
