Gizmodo Blows Whistle On 4G iPhone Loser 853

from the i-meant-to-do-that dept.
Stoobalou writes "Not content with its iPhone scoop, Gizmodo has probably ruined the career of a young engineer. The tech blog last night exposed the name of the hapless Apple employee who had one German beer too many and left a prototype iPhone G4 in a California bar some 20 miles from Apple's Infinite Loop campus. Was that really necessary?" It also came out that they paid $5K for the leaked prototype and that Apple wants it back.

Google Gets Its iPhone Voice 249

Posted by kdawson
from the tap-tap-is-this-thing-on dept.
snydeq writes "Google has found a way to let iPhone owners use Google Voice, launching a Google Voice Web app that runs on iPhone 3.0 OS devices, as well as on Palm WebOS devices. The Google Voice application leverages HTML 5's functionality for running sophisticated Web applications on a browser at speeds matching those of native applications, Google said. The Google Voice-iPhone conflict is one of several issues putting the companies on a collision course, the latest of which involves Apple potentially courting Microsoft to tap Bing as the iPhone's default search."

NASA Concedes Defeat In Effort To Free Spirit Rover 250

from the beat-ninety-days-by-a-bit dept.
An anonymous reader writes "NASA has conceded defeat in its battle to free the Spirit rover from its Martian sand trap. The vehicle became stuck in soft soil back in May last year and all the efforts to extricate it have failed. NASA says that Spirit, which landed on the Red Planet over six years ago, will 'no longer be a fully mobile robot,' and has instead designated the once-roving scientific explorer a stationary science platform."

NASA Tests All-Composite Prototype Crew Module 67

coondoggie writes "With an eye toward building safer, lighter and tougher spacecraft, NASA said today its prototype space crew module made up of composite materials handled tests simulating structural stresses of launch and atmospheric reentry. The idea behind NASA's Composite Crew Module project is to test new structural materials for possible future NASA spacecraft. According to NASA, composite materials are being looked at because they are stiff and lightweight and can be formed into complex shapes that may be more structurally efficient. In space travel, where every additional pound of weight drives costs higher, any weight savings provides increased payload capacity and potentially reduces mission expense."

Rob Malda on CNN

NickyGotz22 writes "Good news everyone! The folks over at CNN have their fingers on the pulse of society again, they just let me know its probably okay and maybe even "cool" to be a geek and apparently its "chic". Slashdot creator-director Rob Malda weights in on this gripping tale of the struggle for equality that is faced daily by my fellow geeks, nerds, dorks, and maybe even a few of you dweebs. http://www.cnn.com/2009/SHOWBIZ/05/06/geeks.pop.culture/index.html"

Asimov's 3 laws? Ethical dilemmas of robotics

Submitted by
penguin_dance
penguin_dance writes "This week, experts in South Korea said they were drawing up an ethical code to prevent humans abusing robots, and vice versa. And, a group of leading roboticists called the European Robotics Network (Euron) has even started lobbying governments for legislation.

Of course this brings important delimas to mind: What happens to the Rockem' Sockem Robots (or is it all staged anyway)? Will it be a hate crime to eliminate a robot?"
