Doctor Slams Hospital's "Please" Policy 572

Posted by samzenpus
from the paging-doctor-manners dept.
Administrators at England's Worthing Hospital are insisting that doctors say the magic word when writing orders for blood tests on weekends. If a doctor refuses to write "please" on the order, the test will be refused. From the article: "However, a doctor at the hospital said on condition of anonymity that he sees the policy as a money-saving measure that could prove dangerous for patients. 'I was shocked to come in on Sunday and find none of my bloods had been done from the night before because I'd not written "please,"' the doctor said. 'I had no results to guide treatment of patients. Myself and a senior nurse had to take the bloods ourselves, which added hours to our 12-hour shifts. This system puts patients' lives at risk. Doctors are wasting time doing the job of the technicians.'"

Who has unlimited data with tethering in the US for $15 a month? Or is it $15 a month on top of your $70 unlimited talk and text? I pay $100 for three lines, one being an iPhone. I have wifi at work and home, my largest data month in the last 3 years was 180Megs. I will happily take my %15 discount to go to the 200M plan.

The NFL has a package where you can watch all the games in "Stunning HD quality" (Actually not that bad, roughly netflix HD quality) . The big BUT is that you can't watch online when ANY other game is playing, which means no football til after midnight EST on Sunday and then blocked again for Mon night game. I got it this year but couldn't keep free of enough news/facebook updates/etc to watch it the next day.

I think this depends how informed the gamer is. Every month or so I troll thru the demo section on the PS3 and download a few that look interesting. More often than not the demo shows me the game sucks and I should save my money. But sometimes I find a gem. As a moderate gamer, I don't follow all the releases. Sure I know about the big ticket ones, but not the other 30 games that come out every month.

Fine Print Says Game Store Owns Your Soul 262

mr_sifter writes "UK games retailer GameStation revealed that it legally owns the souls of thousands of customers, thanks to a clause it secretly added to the online terms and conditions for its website. The 'Immortal Soul Clause' was added as part of an attempt to highlight how few customers read the terms and conditions of an online sale. GameStation claims that 88 percent of customers did not read the clause, which gives legal ownership of the customer's soul over to the UK-based games retailer. The remaining 12 percent of customers however did notice the clause and clicked the relevant opt-out box, netting themselves a £5 GBP gift voucher in the process."

astroengine writes "A new radio telescope is under construction, consisting of 44 stations (each consisting of several antennae) spread across Europe. The pan-European Low Frequency Array is half built and already returning unprecedented observations of cosmic radio sources. The best thing is, when it's complete, SETI will be able to use the array to seek out transmitting extraterrestrial civilizations in these untapped low radio frequencies."

I remember buying mission packs at the store for the original Wing Commander series, must have been 1992 or 93. The difference to me is that with modern games (Looking at you bioshock 2). I really didn't feel like I got my $60 worth, and then right away they are pushing expansions. I feel like the value eqaution has changed.

It was advertised quite heavily at launch. Tons of people use playstations as cell development platforms because they are about 1/10th the cost of a "real" cell computer. Sony itself made a yellow dog release of linux for it. Here is a link talking about YDL from 2006 : http://ps3.ign.com/articles/748/748255p1.html
