Also, as a personal note: Lighten up. Have fun with your resume and don't follow the exact rules and formats of everyone else.

I have to disagree. A "fun" resume makes you memorable for all the wrong reasons, it's like showing up to a first date wearing a clown wig and oversized shoes. Make your personality be what makes you stand out from the crowd. It's okay to toss out a joke or two at the interview to show you're not a stuffed-shirt, but at that point they're already interested in you.

7 Years of the Patriot Act

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "Recently, my father and I were debating certain aspects of the government. I'm fairly libertarian, he is extremely republican. During the conversation, we were debating the PATRIOT act and how it has been misused. He challenged me to do some research and provide him with one documented instance of the act being misused; for every one I can find, he will donate $5 to the political charity of my choice. I'm thinking EFF or ACLU, leaning towards EFF. I would like to maximize the charity donation, so I thought I would ask the /. community for help locating as many misuses as possible.

To qualify as misuse, the case must have no legitimate connection to terrorism, and the victim of the abuse must be an American citizen. The case of the attorney in Portland, OR being imprisoned without trial does not count; my father believes that while they arrested the wrong man they did it on evidence that would have held up in a court regardless.

So, help me make money for the EFF!"

The Big Three of Linux: Looking ahead to 2008->

Submitted by Anonymous Coward
An anonymous reader writes "What are Red Hat, Novell and Canonical going to have to do in 2008 to in order to dominate the desktop and server Linux market? Let's take a moment and assess the situation. Red Hat is the dominant force in Linux right now. They own the enterprise market. SUSE is also supported by many IHVs as a ready-to-install operating system (OS), but does not have nearly the market share as flouted by the fedora. Ubuntu is the little Linux OS that could and, in the last three years, it has gripped the desktop Linux market with a stranglehold and will not let go. It seems that each distribution has found a niche: Red Hat and Ubuntu are the leaders in their markets, and SUSE is a comfortable runner-up. However, history has shown us that businesses are not content to stay still too long or play second fiddle. So, what will Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu have to do in the new year to gain new ground?"
