I actually reflashed my Vaio VGN-FW285J in order to enable Intel VT-x which was deliberately disabled by Sony. It irked me to no end that they disabled this feature, since I would not have bought the laptop if I'd known they'd disabled it. The procedure on how to reflash is on my blog, along with links on how to do it for Sony's other Vaio laptops (such as the "Z" series). The blog post is here: http://linux.com/community/blogs/sonys-crippled-intel-vt-support.html Credit should of course go to those fine folks who took the time to reverse engineer the BIOS, such as Igor Levicki who did this for the FW series' AMI BIOS. I hope Sony realizes they are making a big mistake.

+ - Twitter Security Breach Scars Celebrity Accounts

Submitted by Chaxid
Chaxid (772696) writes "According to Twitter's blog, a security breach of one of thier administrative accounts has lead to the defacement of several celebrity "twitter-ers". The victims include Barack Obama, Brittney Spears, Rick Sanchez, and Bill O'reilly. TechCrunch is reporting that the hack has been traced back to a web forum known as Digital Gangster, home of hacker-turned-rapper YTCracker. Sources close to the alledged hacker have claimed that the breach was the result of poor security practices at Twitter, namely the lack of restricting the number of failed login attempts, and the use of a dictionary password by an administrator by the name of "Crystal".

As Twitter increases its web footprint, the number of hack attempts against the website will probably increase in proportion. Hopefully we will see better security practices from Twitter in the future."
