  • But I could be on crack - if it does have one though, it wouldn't be forced. After all, the whole book is an experimental piece of literature that manipulates the form of written text in order to elicit an emotional response... the way the text is laid out on the page is used as a tool to manipulate you. If the characters are in a confusing area, the page layout becomes confusing, with footnotes and sidenotes and distractions eating up space to the point where its very hard to follow.
