  • Once got a call from a market research company, that had a few days previously sent us a dollar in the mail (no, seriously, a whole dollar) to prove their bona-fides. The company wanted to know what we listened to on the radio.

"We don't listen to the radio", I explained, "We think it's immoral."

    "Er, wha?! Surely you"

"No, we consider it immoral, it's just disgusting" I explained.

"Well, er, sorry to have bothered you" came the bewildered reply, and hung up. I was having difficulty keeping a straight

      I can't say i disagree. :)
  • I once told a toner salesman we had a paperless office. He still kept trying to sell me more - it was fun. The tricky bit was that someone was running off a few hundred copies on the copier right outside my office. Quite a noisy machine, that.

I would like to find a nice way of doing it without fibbing. Then again, i never get such calls. :)

That would be tricky. Some salesmen won't politely end a call even after the tenth firm repetition of non-interest. One method that works pretty well is to say you'll give them your business if they will sell to you at some unsustainably low cost. For example, say a toner catridge costs $100 from your current supplier, aim for $15 per cartridge from the salesman. Most get the idea pretty quickly that you're not going to budge on your lowball number and give up. Technically no lying going on either, as long

          Interesting point.

It almost makes me want to have the calls, to think of some insane solution.
  • Link of the day? We do not use links or days here.

We type in web addresses manually. At night.
