  • I see we're currently at 921651. Don't know what the rate of account growth averages, but I'm guessing it'll happen within a year. I may even try to grab it. Is that a valid ID, or will /. turn over?
    • I've been recording UID creation information for a while, the data is in my journal. The current estimate for UID 1000000 is mid-July next year, but I expect it will be a bit earlier than that when people see how close it is and a bunch of people try to grab it. As far as being valid, I don't see why it wouldn't be. One million isn't a particularly special number for computers. A number like 2^32 (or 2^31 for signed numbers) is much more likely to be a problem, but I doubt they're worrying now about what to

Well that would be kind of cool, create the millionth account and wind up as user zero, thus one-upping (or should that be one-downing?) Taco.

If there is a 6 digit limit on the Slashdot odometer will it notice that the millionth and one applicant is about to be assigned a user ID that already exists and shut down new accounts?

Or maybe it'll make negative accounts that use reverse Karma technology, encouraging trolls. :)
