Typically when you have MAJOR problems in Beta you weigh that and delay the release if needed. Apple however has too much HUBRIS to do this. Trend Micro did this recently as well. The Beta for Worry-Free Business (Their Enterprise AV solution) was horrible on performance. They released it anyways on schedule. Most customers jumped ship.

O'RLY? Ok well when you can get a robot to figure out just what it is that the end user wants when the end user doesn't even know what they want, get back to me. In addition when a robot can understand and parse 20 different vertical specific application on 4 major operating systems and 6 different server operating systems across diverse geographical environments then also get back to me. Yeah, like I said before, my job is very secure.

Yeah. I mean I work in IT and I can tell you that a machine will never replace my job because in the end most of the problems I fix are because a human designed the software or hardware incorrectly or because a human cannot figure out how to use or be trusted with software or hardware. My job is secure until robots design the software and hardware themselves.

Judging by the vast majority of comments on here blaming the Tea party for this crisis, remind me not to ask Slashdot anything related to stocks, finances, running a business or even which bank to use. The users on this website have all fallen into the trap of group think and swallowed the Keynesian Economic model hook, line and sinker. Only on Slashdot would this AC get modded up. Only on Slashdot. Barack Obama was the one playing games. The House of Representatives passed a perfectly fine plan. It was the DEMOCRAT controlled Senate that didn't even let their plan see a vote.

Being prepared for war is expensive and dangerous. However the cost of not being prepared is much higher. This was only costs the US marginally more then if we were to just be prepared. Look it up. Also look up the casualties. Compare baseline numbers of both in non-war years to now. Ignore what is considered budget for the war. Just compare the total budgets from year to year. You'll find that the budget problem in the US actually has very little to do with the engagements in the middle east.

This is an isolated incident. This totally isn't happening all over the country. The police totally don't violate people's first, second, fourth and fifth amendment rights on a daily basis. There is no need to watch the watchers. They are all honorable upstanding citizens. Also, the opposite of everything I just said.

Exactly! I mean people would know this if they read the article but this is Slashdot...

Basically right now they would not be able to do away with cell phone based radios in smart meters unless this device allowed two different connection modes. This is because 99% of the time data flow is low and can be delayed with no real consequenses. However less then 1% of the time the meters get firmware updates over the air and this does require some decent bandwidth especially in the mesh architecture.
