The real Free and Open Source Exchange Replacement-> 2

Submitted by extrafu
extrafu writes "Recently, the SOGo developers at Inverse developed together with the OpenChange team a storage provider that reuses much of the SOGo code. This means Microsoft Outlook can talk to SOGo just like if it was an Exchange server. This is a major step in the FOSS groupware world as costly MAPI connectors can now be avoided for Microsoft Outlook users and they can benefit from a modern groupware server to handle all their needs. A video demonstrating Outlook connected to SOGo through OpenChange server is available from the SOGo website. And yes, everything is available under the GNU GPL and is under active development."

Someone misinformed is making a woe-is-us story out of a minor problem. The incompatibility is there, but the solution is in work.

I wouldn't be doing the development of the Akaondi plugin for Openchange if I wasn't confident there was a solution.

We could use some help with development and testing though - feel free to come by and help out!

GPLv3 Scuppers Open-Source Exchange Compatibility 1

An anonymous reader writes "There's a neat project called OpenChange to develop an open-source client library for Microsoft Exchange. Unfortunately, they are heavily dependent on Samba code for the underlying protocol support and have been forced to move to GPLv3 as a result. This has made it impossible to legally add support to other software such as KDE which is unwilling or unable to go GPLv3."
