While you want your free entertainment in the form of TV shows perhaps some people want it in the form of internet or gadgets to play on.

Also I think the concern given to emergency broadcasts is rather unrealistic. Could tcp/ip not deliver even more reliable emergency broadcasts than TV.

In some of the very sparsly populated and rural communities will there be people with these devices close enough to the TV sets to disrupt it?

Artificial Tornadoes Could Solve Global Warming->

Submitted by Bomarrow1
Bomarrow1 writes "Louis Michaud believes that Man-Made Tornadoes could be the answer to global warming. He suggests that if hundreds of tornadoes were placed along the equator using warm water to power them they could solve the current energy problem. A side effect of this would be that they would aid in removing heat from the atmosphere by raising warm air to the outer limits of the atmosphere."

saudadelinux writes "Wired magazine is carrying a story in which a Sean Sturgeon, a former lover of Reiser's ex-wife (and a former friend of his), admitted to killing eight people unrelated to the case. "(Deputy District Attorney) Paul Hora indicated that the court was ordering him to divulge this information," defense attorney Richard Tamor said last Friday." He also said that Sturgeon had confessed to a potential ninth murder, but that Sturgeon wasn't sure if the victim was fully dead when he left him.""

Cooler Silicon Lasers Via Energy Harvesting 31

from the more-power-to-ya dept.
Light Licker writes "UCLA researchers have developed a way to cut power use and heat output from a silicon laser used for optoelectronics. Both have been problems because silicon absorbs too much light — producing high-energy free electrons that make heat. One of Intel's best silicon lasers produced 125 times more heat than usable light. The UCLA team added a diode to their laser which can harvest free electrons and use them to help power the circuit — simultaneously cutting heat output and power use."
