Cyberlink Bankrupt or Hacked? 1

Submitted by Blowit
Blowit writes "After watching a movie with PowerDVD 5, I noticed that my Hardware Acceleration was disabled. I downloaded the latest video drivers and still it was disabled. So I wanted to go to Cyberlink's Web Site to see if there were any patches for my version and I got greeted with a 404 error loading the web site. I also tried Google to see if any other links (Download, Forums, etc.) would work and it seems like the whole site has been wiped out. Has this site been hacked or has Cyberlink gone bankrupt?"

Walmart distributing Viruses 1

Submitted by Blowit
Blowit writes "With the Christmas holidays just past and opening up your electronic presents may get you all excited but not for a selected lot of people who got the Mercury 1.5" Digital Photo Frame from Walmart (or other stores). My father in law attached the device to his computer and his Trend Micro Anti-virus screamed that a virus is on the device. I scanned the one I have and AVAST did not find any virus... SO I went to Virscan.org to see what vendors found what and the results are here and here. This product has been available since 2007 at Walmart yet they are still selling the product 1 year later. How can they continue to sell a product when there is a virus on the device? Can we sue the vendor for actively distributing a virus on a device when they should have had sufficient amount of time to remove the product from the market?"

Bell Canada moves to limit DSL traffic for ISPs

Submitted by Blowit
Blowit writes "It seems like Bell Canada is becoming a communistic corporation. According to the CBC, Bell Canada will be limiting the total bandwidth usable for Independent ISPs and charging them for usage over 2GB (for 512kb DSL) or 60GB (for 5mb DSL) at a rate of $1.95/GB (accordingly to Sympatico's, Bell Canada's Retail Internet Provider, current rates).

ISPs who wanted to deploy IPTV has to scrap these future networks over Bell Canada's wholesale DSL services cause of the new usage based billing(UBB). Residential services will be affected as of January 2009 while Businesses will be affected some time in the future. All current DSL clients in Ontario and Quebec (Bell's area) will be converted to Usage Based Billing.

I seriously hope the Canadian Public will rise and complain to the CRTC and their MPs to request that Bell Canada should lose its copper infrastructure and have the government own it again. After all, the taxpayers paid to build the Infrastructure."

eBay User Data stolen?

Submitted by
Blowit
Blowit writes "One of my clients had forwarded to me an email he received, it seemed like a well constructed eBay message. However, everything looked authentic; the kicker, the correct full name, username and email address were used in the spam/spoof mail. Has eBay user data been compromised and if so, why eBay did not mention it to its clients? Anyone else seen these messages?"

EVDO services causing Bees to die? 1

Submitted by Blowit
Blowit writes "My father has lost bee colonies 2 years in a row due to Colony Collapse Disorder. I checked the wiki and have found some interesting links between cellular services and the possibility of EVDO services causing Colony Collapse Disorder. As I have viewed the Cellular EVDO Network maps vs the CCD death areas, there seems to be a strong possibility that the high speed Cellular data network systems may be killing off the bees. Those areas that do not have EVDO services said that they are not affected by CCD. My Father's cottage is located in an area that does not show as EVDO capable on Telus Mobility's network maps however, with my PDA Phone, I can confirm 5 bars out of 5 that his land is covered in EVDO signal. Do you think that our cellular providers are killing our beloved bees at an alarming rate as they build out their networks?"

A bug in the hand is better than one as yet undetected.
