New Online Auction Sites - Thoughts? Suggestions? Reviews?

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "After being bombarded nearly non-stop with commercials for new online bidding sites, such as Quibids, Beezid, and others, I was curious if anyone has used these sites? Would anyone care to elaborate on their experiences, found "deals" or horror stories? Since the commercials make them seem like they are such a value, whats the secret? I can't help but get a Groupon vibe from these."

Notch Stepping Down From Minecraft Lead->

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "Mark Perrson, better known as Notch, is stepping down as Minecraft Lead Developer. Now that Minecraft is "completed" and has been released, Notch is planning to step away from game development for a time. The lead role will be handled by long-time Mojang team member Jens Bergensten. Notch plans to continue to contribute to Minecraft, but what is to be expected without its founder at the helm?"

Ask Slashdot: Best EEPROM Programmer for a Hobbyis 1

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "I had been in the amusement repair industry (video gaming, pinball, jukeboxes, etc) for more than a decade, but have recently taken a new career path. I still greatly enjoy tinkering with all the electronics, and collect many arcade games and pinball machines for my home. I always had access to EEPROM / PROM / PIC / GAL programmers on the job, but never owned one personally. I'm finding it difficult to work within my chosen hobby without one, and ordering pre-programmed chips can be cost prohibitive for some projects. I would love it if some of you professionals or other hobbyists out there could recommend a great programmer that supports a large number of chip formats for me to use. Id like it to be something USB, more modern than Serial or Parallel port (usually what we had in the old days) and preferably sub-$300, new or used. There are tons of Chinese import types on eBay, but I'd hate to spend $80+ if I am unsure of the quality. I appreciate it in advance guys!"

Real-life Frogger Ends In Hospital Visit-> 1

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "A 23-year old man has been hospitalized after police in South Carolina say he was hit by an SUV while playing a real-life version of the video game "Frogger." Authorities said the 23-year-old man was taken to a hospital in Anderson after he was struck Monday evening. Before he was hit, police say the man had been discussing the game with his friends. Chief Jimmy Dixon says the man yelled "go" and darted into oncoming traffic in the four-lane highway.

Has it come time to ban some of the classics before someone else goes out and breaks a few bricks with their heads after eating a large mushroom? Wait, I'm betting that has already happened."

The McRib Returns Nationwide - November 2nd!-> 1

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "McDonald's famous McRib sandwich returns to over 14,000 US locations on November 2nd. This marks the first nationwide release of the sandwich in more than 15 years, and it is also the first time the sandwich has been available in nearly 3 years. Knowing its large cult following, I'm sure many Slashdotters are huge fans. I'm already set to devour its saucy, processed, pork patty goodness!"

Man Caught Marinating Cat In Car Trunk->

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "A Buffalo man, Gary Korkuc, was arrested by police for running a Stop sign. What they found upon opening the trunk was shocking. A live black cat was found marinating in a sauce made of red chilis, salt, oil and other ingredients. Korkuc, 51, claims the he was not going to eat the cat, but that he was on his way to return it to the animal shelter, and that the cat had miscarried and thats what the substance was. Further review deterimed that the cat is indeed a 4-year old neutered male. The suspect denies all charges and also claims that the police were in the process of fire-bombing a nearby building when they decided to stop him."

BigSes writes "A judge will take a few days to decide upon approving the name change of a Pittsburgh area man. The man would like to change his name to "Boomer the Dog" after the short lived television series. He is also a strong suppporter of the anthromorphic movement. Should a name change be such an issue?"

Comcast Sets Standard

Submitted by BigSes
BigSes writes "As I attempted to check the amusement collectibles on my Atlantic Broadband newgroups tonight, I was suprised to find that my server now requires authentication. After attempting to use my email login and being denied, I email customer service. Much to my dismay, I found out that Atalntic Broadband has followed suit with Comcast, and has discontinued newsgroup service due to low interest. Of course, this move was made with absolutely no warning, and no offered refunds or reduced prices for service. They aren't even pulling the same card that Comcast did, offering a discount to a large newgroup provider, they are offering nothing. They didn't even feel the need to send out a heads-up to their customers, or post any sort of message on their website. Could the age of included Usenet newgroups truly be coming to an end?"

I enjoy the time that we spend together.
