+ - SkyOS now free (as in beer)->

Beardydog writes: SkyOS, the commercial, alternative OS created almost entirely by Robert Szeleney, became free (as in beer) sometime last month. Alternative OS enthusiasts can be forgiven for missing it, as the website has been largely derelict, and the forums overrun with spam, since the project was halted in 2009. It's not clear from the announcement whether the ISO available is the traditional build, or the version rebuilt around Linux. The post announcing the free version provides a license name ("public") and registration code that must be entered during setup. While it isn't quite the open-sourcing that most followers hoped for, it's heartening to know SkyOS won't be completely lost in the mists of time.

+ - ReactOS 0.3.15 Released->

Beardydog writes: From the ReactOS.org bulletin, "The ReactOS project is proud to announce the release of version 0.3.15. A culmination of over a year of development, 0.3.15 incorporates several architectural enhancements to create a more compatible and conformant implementation of the NT architecture. Perhaps the most user visible enhancement is initial support for USB devices, both storage and input."

+ - Jailbreakme.com 3.0 Activated->

Beardydog writes: Jailbreakme.com has been officially updated, providing the first public method for jailbreaking the iPad 2, and the easiest method for jailbreaking most other iOS devices. The jailbreak works with iOS 4.3.3, and it is recommended that users update before a new release from Apple closes the vulnerability exploited by the jailbreak.

+ - MtGox.com Bitcoin trading site compromised-> 3 3

Beardydog writes: Bitcoin trading site MtGox.com has suspended operations for the rest of the day after illicit access to at least one account resulted in a steep drop in the price of Bitcoins on the site. Commenters to the support page for the event are reporting that a list of usernames and associated email addresses and password hashes have been posted online. MtGox are currently planning to roll back all of the day's trading, email notices to all affected users, and require replacement passwords for affected accounts.
