There seems to be a consensus on Python, which I agree to.
I'd reccomend this book for a kid: http://www.manning.com/sande/
Hello World! Computer programming for kids and other beginners.

It was actually written by a dad and his 12 year old while taching him to program using Python.

speeding up IPv6 implementation with a cake->

akaiONE writes "Five weeks ago, I was given a link to the picture submitted by American ISP Hurricane Electric (HE) with their cunning plan to solve the IPv6-disconnect in their peering with also American ISP Cogent Co. The technical guys at HE nailed it with baking a cake and bringing it to a NANOG-meeting (The North American Network Operators Group).

Just like the techies at HE, I thought that I could perhaps speed up the IPv6 peering with our upstream providers by sending out a cake. Thus I started my IPv6-implementation speed-up project with the goal of sending out cakes to first, our own upstreams and then encourage others to do the same to get IPv6 implemented in Norway fast. I now ask all of you who provide and service bandwidth to do the same with your peers. Spread the word! Heck, even management people loves cakes!"

AMD to release new 3.4GHz Phenom II X4 next week->

jdb2 writes "According to TweakTown AMD will be releasing, or sampling I should say, new 3.4GHz Phenom II X4s sometime next week. This chip will have a PR number of '965' and is expected to have the same or lower price as the current 955 BEs — AMD will certainly be putting pressure on Intel who have already lowered the prices of their enthusiast class chips.

Obviously this part is directly targeted at overclockers and one might wonder if this and AMD's clandestine 'TWKR' chip are one in the same. If that is the case, then according to numerous recent reports this chip may be able to break the 8GHz barrier with extreme overclocking."

If you pay 50% or even more in taxes that means you have a high salary. There is something called toppskatt that means that if you make more than NOK 441.670 == EUR 48770,98 You pay about 50% of what you make over that. Normal people pay 36% minus deductions. So I could agree that beeing rich in Norway kind of sucks unless you are a social democrat, but for the average worker it's great. Sure the health system is not perfect, and will never be, but it's still great. And, we still complain...

According to "ferieloven" 5-1 the employer is required to make sure the employee takes at least 25 working days of vacation. The same section also says that the employee has to use the vacation.

I agree with you about that Norwegians are not good at expressing feelings etc. and the Norwegian language lacks a lot of words. That does not mean that Norwegians in general are unfriendly, but it's in our nature not to talk to strangers unless it's strictly necessary. And I understand why that to a foreigner might seem unfriendly or even rude. I actually struggle some times to find adequate Norwegian words, and have to substitute them with english ones.

www.nav.no and most of the forms are available in among others english language.

I live south of the polar circle, but not in Oslo as I guess you do, and here it never gets dark in the summer even though the sun sets. And the winter is not all that depressing, there's a lot of outdoor activities you can't do in warmer countries.
