Austrian Anarchy's Journal: 100 MPG Carburetor 2

Journal by Austrian Anarchy

Any of you fellow oldsters out there remember the story about the 100 MPG carburetor that The Man would not let us use because it would reduce petroleum consumption too much? I seem to remember hearing that over 30 years ago, and the story was that Big Oil bought the patent and kept it secret. That patent should be expired by now, and in the US patents are not renewable, so where the heck is the old patent? I'm restoring a classic car and having one of these would fit right in with the period. In sticking with the spirit of the old story, I suppose installing one upside down would bring 100 HP, but will installing them upside down in series have a multiplier effect?

  • Nothing ever came of that story and I guarantee it was a hoax. There have always been snake oil salesmen and "inventors" claiming outrageous efficiencies in their designs but nothing ever comes of them. Then the conspiracy nuts think there is a cover up involved and come up with equally outrageous stories. You hear things like patents being forcefully bought out or how the inventor was arrested or his invention and patents/paperwork/computers confiscated by the government. Its all a big lie.

Drop three Holley 2 barrels on there and be done with it. That or drop in a twin 4 barrel intake but it sounds like you want to keep it original.

Yea, the hoax and conspiracy items are part of the humor. The other part is what you just did :) Plus, three Holley 2 barrels are an integral portion of the "318 Six-Pack" project. I think the new Holley's have E-85 resistant gaskets, so the car will be "green" as soon as the motor comes off the dyno.
