And yet, as so many people here love to point out when it favors them, you still get to have the pig. Apple has taken nothing, the pig still exists as ever and apple has provided you with a sausage as well.

Maybe you don't like sausage and thats fine, but don't act like someone took away your (or anyone else's) pig.

Of course they aren't supposed to refuse a manual search if you request one and you are supposed to be free to leave, but clearly, policy or not, sometimes things don't go that way. Heck if you make a big deal about not going through the scanner (rightly) and then go to leave the could hold you for acting suspicious.

Seems like the way to go would be to remove the pump for security and put it in your cary on (which is only subjected to the traditional X-ray scanner).

Certainly a pain in the ass and it shouldn't be necessary but its probably not worth the risk. Of course if it was a piece of equipment that you can't go without long enough to go through security that would be more of a problem.

Actually there is a halo effect with movies, a friend of mine did his PHD thesis in economics partially on this effect. When a big movie comes out the previous movies (if its a series) see a bump in DVD sales. Movies by the same director or with the same lead actors get a bump. In this case, certainly the previous "Avenger" movies in the "series" probably saw a bump in DVD sales and movies with Robert Downey Jr probably saw a bump.

The reason for this is likely pretty simple, people are talking about the Avengers and that stirs up interest in the previous movies, wanting to see them again or see them for the first time before the big movie or even a friend saying "Hey if you liked Robert Downey Jr in Iron man you should see Sherlock."

If there is a place where piracy is effecting the bottom line for studios it is probably seen in this effect where people might have been inspired to buy a copy of the Hulk to check it out but instead downloaded it to save a few bucks. It would be interesting to look at the spike in downloads for movies that your would expect to see a spike in DVD sales for.

Of course that doesn't mean every download of those movies is a lost sale, many of these movies are available for rental or VOD.

Why is an 18 month contract such a big deal for people? Maybe its a bigger deal in Europe because you are afraid you will move out of the coverage area within 18 months.

For me, I know that I'm going to be paying for cell phone service no matter what (I don't have home phone) so there is little reason for me not to sign a contract if it benefits me in anyway. You are spending €10 for something you are not likely to use... well maybe you are likely to change plans but I bet most people don't change providers that frequently.

Also, your spending more per month for your service than I am for the voice and data on my iPhone and that is with the subsidy and I have a 2gb data plan which I can change at any time down or up.

What kind of data/minutes plan are you getting for $30 a month? My understanding is that T-mobile only credits you $10 bucks a month for bringing your own phone and a $40 a month smart phone plan sounds pretty good to me.

How much would you have saved on the phone if you bought it through T-mobile? Would your monthly only be $40 if you did?
