+ - Microsoft apparently is buying Skype for $8.5B->

Alex Belits writes: "Microsoft is apparently buying Skype for $8.5B. The news first appeared as a rumor at GigaOm ( http://gigaom.com/2011/05/08/more-skype-rumors-big-news-soon-microsoft-in-the-mix/ ) and seem to be confirmed by others.

Skype has significant debt, seems to be barely profitable, and Microsoft has nothing to gain from buying or operating it. Except, of course, their typical strategy — embrace, extend, then either extinguish or turn into a Windows delivery vehicle."
