AgNO3 writes "Autodesk now owns all 3 of the Major 3d apps. While Modo, Lightwave and Cinema 4d are players they have no where near the share that the 3 apps Autodesk now owns have. Maya, 3d Max, and Softimage XSI are the Major players for 3d in Movies, TV and Games.

Avid Technology, Inc. announced that they have signed a definitive agreement for Autodesk to acquire substantially all of the assets of Avid's Softimage business unit for approximately $35 million."

SGI to sue its way back from the grave

"A day after it returned to NASDAQ (under a new stock ticker) SGI has filed suit against ATI claiming patent infringement. SGI claims ATI violated patent number 6,650,327, "Display system having floating point rasterization and floating point framebuffering", which was filed in 1998 and granted in 2003, in its Radeon graphics cards."
