DOOM The Next Xbox Live Arcade Release

63N1U5 writes "A Xbox Live press release from September the 18th hailed the release of a never before announced major franchise on Xbox Live arcade as a part of a major content release scheduled to begin on 9/19 and continue over the following nine days. Much speculation ensued over the identity of the new franchise, with many experts expecting LodeRunner to be the latest XBLA release.
However, Dutch website Xboxworld reported that the mystery Xbox Live Arcade game is not LodeRunner as expected, but instead ID's classic FPS, DOOM. This was later confirmed by Xbox Live's own Major Nelson.
The game is expected to run at three times its original resolution and support 5.1 surround sound, as well four player online and offline co-op, and potentially online deathmatch. It is expected to become available for download on the Xbox Live MarketPlace on Wednesday night, September 27."
