Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "Anne Rice agreed to terms with the video book company Vook on a multimedia edition of "The Master of Rampling Gate," a vampire story published in Redbook magazine in 1984 and set in an England mansion in the 19th century. "Vook represents a very exciting combination of new technological elements, that I think is long overdo in publishing," Rice said in a statement released Wednesday by Vook.

So, it's text with video...isn't that a web page with video...what's so innovative about this /.? http://vook.com/vook.php"

Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "I didn't know that Michael Robertson was embroiled in a battle to keep his personal property. http://michaelrobertson.com/minute.php You may remember him as the CEO of MP3.com, and Lindows (now Linspire), and more recently MP3tunes, where he wants you to be able to have access to all of your music anywhere, and at any time, and EMI decided to take him to court on it. EMI lost the case against he personal property in an attempt to scare him into settling. Now, he's fighting for the right to PARTY...(Sorry, couldn't resist) access YOUR music over the Internet."

Atlantis, using technology to find it

Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "Has Atlantis been found? Author, and adventurer Jim Allen took a different approach when looking for the mythical city; he looked to see if there was a place on earth that would have the rectangular level plain, and the canals that Plato described, and he found it using Google Earth: the Bolivian Altiplano. Fantastic theories, and his evidence is almost overwhelming convincing! http://www.atlantisbolivia.org/atlantisboliviapart1.htm"

No More Clogged Toilets! High Tech Toilet Seat. 1

Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "I had a good snicker when choosing the Section, and Topic for this! It is an "Input Device" I guess? Whenever I use my "facilities," I'm always armed with the toilet bowl plunger to ensure that everything goes down where it should, and I have a saying, "Don't turn your back on a flushing toilet." This is the way of life for me in my home, but when I saw what this toilet seat does, and the technology that has gone into it, to stop this daily war of mine, I'm frantic to get one! I'm not affiliated with the company or anything, but you have to admit the WOW, and FINALLY factors are there! (No more cold toilet seats, and the never ending wiping sessions will be wiped out;-) http://www.washlet.com/"

Mainstream Video Games Developed for Linux

Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "With all of the attention on how great Linux is over other operating systems with regards to stability, updating, and maintaining it, I have to ask why aren't mainstream video games being developed for Linux? I have talked with hardcore gamers/geeks, and the only reason that they have Windows on their computers is because they can't play the video games that they have purchased, such as Battlefield 2142, Unreal Tournament 2004 on Linux unless it is using emulation software such as Wine, etc."

Vista Is Now In Control!

Submitted by 1mck
1mck writes "I chanced upon this article "A Cost Analysis of Windows Vista Content Protection" by Mr. Peter Gutmann, http://www.cs.auckland.ac.nz/~pgut001/pubs/vista_c ost.html and I am more than a little bit upset as to what is going on! I've had problems with Microsoft in the past with them, such as having menu options totally ignore what I've chosen, but this is getting ridiculous! Can anyone enlighten me more on what this new operating system, Vista, going to do for me, the user if I purchase it, or is it, once more, just all about Microsoft making money, and trying to kill the competition? Isn't it just an operating system for me, the user to operate my programs, and devices? With these draconian measures, it seems that Microsoft is going to cause more, and more people to switch to Macs and Linux, or am I way off here?"
