MythTV 0.21 Released 68

kormoc writes "The new release has lots of new stuff, notably: autodiscovery (less manual configuration of new front-ends), storage groups (no need for LVM/etc), support for multiple recordings on one DVB/ATSC multiplex, a couple of new plugins, some new deinterlacing / video display options, and many, many other things. The release notes page in the wiki has the list of what's changed, but it's currently a couple thousand checkins out of date. Grab the release from the download section and please at least try to read the docs before asking questions. The binary packages should hopefully be updated to 0.21 soon."

micheas writes "Larry Lessig has decided that running for U.S. Congress himself in a special election would be too risky to his Change Congress movement and has decided not to run. 'With lots of mixed feelings, I have decided a run for Congress would not help the Change Congress movement. I explain the thinking in this 5 minute video (a new record for me!). First question: What happens to the contributions to Lessig08? As explained on the ActBlue page, all will go to (the yet to be established) Change Congress organization.'"

certain studies find that multitasking boosts the level of stress-related hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline and wears down our systems through biochemical friction, prematurely aging us. In the short term, the confusion, fatigue, and chaos merely hamper our ability to focus and analyze, but in the long term, they may cause it to atrophy.
In a long and interesting article Walter Kirn talks about the scientific results that support his claim and his own experiences with multitasking."

Researchers have deciphered the crystal structure of a human membrane protein which has a major influence on the development of asthma. They used the ESRF macromolecular crystallography experimental stations (beamlines) to determine the structure of this pharmaceutically important protein, only the third human membrane protein to be solved. The scientists now believe that their work will enable the development of new and better therapeutic drugs targeting inflammation of the respiratory tract.
