Comment convinced me to switch browsers (Score 1) 363

Mozilla's Kraken has just convinced me to switch my browser... to chrome. It's a shame Firefox doesn't understand that browsers should be designed to actually be used by humans. Firefox Test: I start up Kraken in Firefox. Immediately the window becomes nonresponsive for a few seconds, and I'm unable to use mouse-gestures to return to my slashdot tab, forcing me to manually switch. Then my performance in another tab is so severely impacted it becomes a chore to even attempt to read the article, as I'm unable to even scroll down without several second delays. I try to minimize the window resulting in a ridiculous delay, then attempt to maximize the now-nonresponsive Firefox, again getting an even greater delay. It's a pain to even try to close the offending tab while all this is going on. Finally Kraken is halted and I'm in control of my own computer again. Chrome Test: I start up the test in Google. No lag, no delays, no horrible loss of control of the browser. It seems to be taking significantly longer (still not completed), but I can *gasp* actually use my browser! What a novel idea. I'd much rather have a great time on a browser that I'd actually want to use, than a terrible time on a slightly faster platform.

Some people will never understand scientific reasons. For those people, you've got religious explanations.

God hates the smell of car exhaust, and he lives in space. Every time we drive, he gets a waft of the stink and pushes us a little closer to the sun.

This also explains why cow farts are 23 times more offensive to God than CO2.

An anonymous reader writes "A Queensland man will have to pay Nintendo $1.5 million in damages after illegally copying and uploading one of its recent games to the internet ahead of its release, the gaming giant says. Nintendo said the loss was caused when James Burt made New Super Mario Bros Wii available for illegal download a week ahead of its official Australian release in November of last year. Nintendo applied for and was granted a search order by the Federal Court, forcing Burt to disclose the whereabouts of all his computers, disks and electronic storage devices in November. He was also ordered to allow access, including passwords, to his social networking sites, email accounts and websites."

MPAA Scores First P2P Jury Conviction 335

According to the BitTorrent news site Slyck.com, the Department of Justice is proclaiming their first P2P criminal copyright conviction, against an Elite Torrents administrator. The press release notes, 'The jury was presented with evidence that Dove was an administrator of a small group of Elite Torrents members known as "Uploaders," who were responsible for supplying pirated content to the group. At sentencing, which is scheduled for Sept. 9, 2008, Dove faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison.'"
