Magazines and newspapers have ads so they can remain dirt cheap (which they need to do to ensure high viewership [of the ads...]). Also, those ads don't block the actual content, you just flip the page. Movie trailers (previews) are totally fine, and part of the movie-going experience. I do think car commercials and the like played on the big screen before a film is bullshit and one of the reasons I don't go as often as I used to. Commercials between T.V. shows is another fact of life, but not on HBO or Showtime etc. That's what this is most like, but right now since it's just previews for Netflix originals it's not much worse than HBO previewing their other shows for 20seconds before streaming on HBO GO*.

*which is actually really stupid. I'm going to watch all of your new shows when you release them, that's why I fucking subscribe!

I really can't wait until we get a new president. Then it will everyone bitching about the next one will get told to blame Obama, and then people will counter that blaming Obama is old and tired but the new president is somehow worse for not being radically different.

You know what I really honestly and non-sarcastically can't wait for? The day when you idiots stop voting these people into power. As long as the race for presidency--as long as most every political race at every level in this country-- is between a Democrat or a Republican, that will never happen.

Submission + - Sourceforge staff takes over a user's account and wraps their software installer (arstechnica.com) 11

An anonymous reader writes: Sourceforge staff took over the account of the GIMP-for-Windows maintainer claiming it was abandoned and used this opportunity to wrap the installer in crapware. Quoting Ars:

SourceForge, the code repository site owned by Slashdot Media, has apparently seized control of the account hosting GIMP for Windows on the service, according to e-mails and discussions amongst members of the GIMP community—locking out GIMP's lead Windows developer. And now anyone downloading the Windows version of the open source image editing tool from SourceForge gets the software wrapped in an installer replete with advertisements.

So, basically your're telling me we can capture images in 365 Gigapixels now. Okay, I want a monitor to display this, a video card(s) to render textures that size and of course a new Cry engine to run video games in at this resolution (at 60fps!).
Meanwhile, I hope I never have kids who want to go to college 'cause I'm putting all my savings towards that equipment...

The U.S. Postal Service is the only government agency that generates its own money and doesn't get funding from taxes. I fail to see how no cost to taxpayers is more expensive/costly than...whatever you're implying (that FedEx and UPS be allowed to carry regular mail? 3 mailmen a day is less invasive, seriously?!).

Pretty much my thought. I'm worried I might have to look somewhere else to buy cheap plastic crap in the shape of expensive-looking things, but more adequately priced. America has always turned to China (and other Asian countries) to sell us cheap plastic crap, why are people trying to ruin the arrangement?
