earbenT writes: On the heels of Blockbuster's recent announcement, Target has announced that, beginning in October, it will sell Sony's BDP-S300 system as its exclusive high-def player offering in stores. While HD-DVD media will continue to appear on shelves, HD-DVD players will only be offered through the company's website. In related news, BJ's Wholesale Club, an east-coast warehouse chain, is dropping HD-DVD entirely from its stores, though it will also continue offering both formats via its website. Finally, the Japanese adult film industry has effectively settled on Blu-ray as its HD format of choice, after receiving indirect support from Sony.
