If you are violating an unjust law, then why would you want to hide the fact that you were standing up for your rights? I'm assuming by the time you are considered a criminal, you are already known by the authorities.

I'm the same way. I used to love KDE - would compile it every night in the early 4x days. I still love it, it's just not necessary for me.
These days, I pretty much use only use a browser, a terminal (for ssh), and a file manager so the desktop doesn't really matter to me.

Additionally, it's a nice trick to give atheist countries a pass on atrocities while holding Christian countries responsible
