Submission + - P2P Internet Hops, Skips and Jumps over Municipal

ATMD writes: The BBC is reporting on a new effort called "psiphon", intended to grant full, uncensored net access to everyone with a connection, regardless of how restricted it is.

It depends on people in uncensored countries running the program too: the censoree connects to X anonymous Western user, who then proxies their requests and relays data back over an encrypted connection - so not only does the censoree now have access to everything he wants, his nasty ol' government can't see what he's doing and lock him up for it.

I know I'll be running this when it comes out.
It's funny. Laugh.

Submission + - 'Chip and bin' to measure waste

ATMD writes: The BBC is reporting on new "technobins", using (presumably) RFID technology to log just how much rubbish the people of Alnwick, England, are throwing out.
From the article:
About 4,000 households in Alnwick will take part in the five-month project to monitor how much rubbish is recycled. Special equipment fitted to refuse vehicles will read the chips in the bins and instantly record the amount of recycled waste.
