Comment Trust? (Score 2) 410

Sorry, but I don't trust having all my apps run from the web. Just the other day I was on a tight deadline trying to print a document from Docs when it crapped out on me refusing to print. It was late at night, so it's understandable if they needed to do some server maintenance. Or possibly it wasn't even Google's fault because there may have been issues with my ISP, but either way I was helpless to do anything. I would prefer to having things run locally and automatically sync to the cloud when possible.

Apple trades at around 20 times its earnings, similar to Google and Oracle which are both market leaders as well. Nothing out of the ordinary here. What doesn't seem to make sense is why a company like Amazon trades at 60 times its earnings. Is its growth potential 3 times greater than Apple?

The dip is caused by them now selling at a loss (which is pretty stupid, because if they hung onto it they could probably sell at a profit in six months or less).

Or it could be other investors selling because of the spike. Isn't it a bit presumptuous to assume that they're the same people selling at a loss?

How do you propose to filter out the "useless and annoying" apps? When Apple tried to do some filtering people called them draconian and not being transparent with the review process. Please define "useless and annoying" such that both consumers and developers would be satisfied.

I always see this line of thought come from slashdoters, "why do companies have to keep growing, why can't they just keep doing what they're doing now?" Companies are not individuals they are long-lived entities that exist beyond the lifespan of any one individual. If I were to make the same analogy and say that the human race has achieved a lot already why bother trying to improve, would you agree with this comment? Even as individuals, shouldn't we always strive to be better?
