Comment iPhone Apps - Price != Usefulness (Score 1) 437

I've spent about £40 - £50 on apps for my iphone and the most expensive ones haven't been the most complex, not by a long shot. They have, however, been the most useful. In fact, some of those simple apps are so simple I could sit and code them myself in a night, but that would work out more expensive for me owing to Apple's initial developer registration fees.

In such situations it's therefore more cost effective for me to pay that £3 for whichever useful application, saving me time, keeping the developer happy and hopefully giving the developer some financial support to continue making good, useful applications, which in turn keeps me happy.

I see way too many dev's making iphone apps assuming / blaming a lack of sales on the price tag of the application, at the end of the day if the application is worth the price tag, I, like most people, will buy it if I have a need or want for it.

(XP) - Doubtful if Microsoft continue their push on not-supporting XP further while their best alternative is a pile of shite. It's driving more people to pirate XP resulting in less secure system setups - this being something I've personally witnessed from the droves of people (friends etc) contacting me to be their personal tech support gimp.

Could it not be possible that the reason they've scaled back lies with the fact Apple are trying to drive their efforts on the business market / Snow Leopard?

I was under the impression Apple's primary focus at the moment was to try and grab the business market by solidifying Mac OS as a worthy platform / competitor to windows (inherent Exchange functionality, better AD support et al), along with the other features (64bit + opencl etc)

Perhaps they're just not ready and have nothing to announce? I sure as hell can't wait for Snow Leopard but going to Macworld just to be told "We're working on it, it'll probably be ready in 6 months" wouldn't exactly excite leave me feeling all that, satisfied.

Hasbro Finally Drops Scrabulous Lawsuit 51

The Associated Press reports that Hasbro Inc. has now dropped the lawsuit it launched earlier this year against Rajat and Jayant Agarwalla, the creators of Scrabulous, a Scrabble clone that found a sizable following on Facebook. We previously discussed Scrabulous' return to Facebook under a different name, as well as the "official" Scrabble client, which was not exactly well received. Hasbro's IP rights to the game are limited to North America, and the AP story adds: "Mattel, which owns the rights to Scrabble outside of North America, filed a lawsuit against the brothers in India claiming violations of intellectual property. It was not immediately clear what the status of that lawsuit is."
