I think this happens for the same reason people join a union at work The employees view their employer as treating them all unfair, and abusing their position, so to even the odds they bring in a union. Happy workers don't go looking for a union to come to their work place. Unhappy ones forced to work long hours, and overtime constantly for poor wages do. In the same way the American medical system is amazingly hostile to it's citizens. HMOs do everything in their power to drop their patients if the treatment is expensive, or really they not take them on in the first place with rules against pre-existing conditions. When everything is SO MUCH about being money grubbing like this and not about really curing the patients how can you blame people for thinking the medical system would hide a cheap and effective cure that they could not patent, and instead offer an expensive less effective drug that will keep the patient a customer for years? A healed customer is not a return customer.

Yes there is some fluctuation with minor times getting colder or warmer. But global climate not weather over centuries has been warmer and warmer. We know that it will continue in general terms to get warmer than it is currently until there are no glaciers, no sea ice, no ice caps at all. Having said that, and you can check, it's fact. How much would you bet that a trace gas, measured in parts per million, representing 0.04% of the atmosphere and created by humans for perhaps the last 200 years of that 2.6 million years actually has anything at all even slightly to do with why we are coming out of this ice age? If you knew these facts how many scientists would you pay to do research on that trace atmospheric gas and it's affect on long term global climate? Yes climatology would fall apart pretty quickly.

Nuclear at least creates the baseline power cheaply.... and if American law wasn't stuck in the 60s you wouldn't have so much nuclear fuel sitting around that you could reuse over and over again rather than calling it waste. Power is balanced every day, every hour, every minute it's being used. Baseline power fills in the majority of the need, and the brief peaks and fluctuations in the power need to be filled in with power that can be ramped up quickly like gas, or coal fired plants. That's why power companies are switching to smart meters, to help update the system so it can be managed better. The issue with wind is for all the windmills deliver only peak power, not baseline power. So there needs to be a power plant (Coal or Gas) that can be fired up at a moments notice to fill in when the wind dies and demand is still present. So the windmills look nice but they have a dirty smokestack hiding behind them.

I am a Canadian, and as an outsider to your country, and being so small a country ourselves, we watch mostly American TV, and see a lot of American news. It's not concensus that gave us germ theory it is the amazing work of Louis Pasteur - instituting changes in hospital/medical practices to minimize the spread of disease by microbes or germs, - discovering that weak forms of disease could be used as an immunization against stronger forms and that rabies was transmitted by viruses too small to be seen under the microscopes of the time, - introducing the medical world to the concept of viruses. These were proven to anyone in the scientific community who wanted to attempt the experiments that germ theory was right. My favorite scientist Dr. Kary Mullis, Biochemist, 1993 Nobel Prize for Chemistry, and a few thousand of his peers have a bit of trouble with the HIV causes AIDS, you see he was asked to work on that project since he is a Nobel prize winner, and the reasons we now are able to do DNA testing. Well his issue is that nobody actually did any sort of study or paper or experiment, ever, anywhere, that can be shown that HIV developed into AIDS.
