The shift is small but the mass loss is real. Last three year average in the measured area has been 185 gigatonnes/year. It has an effect on the gravity, that's clear. The question is how much, and it seems it can actually be measured by instruments. Not anywhere in the world there's a constant loss of this magnitude, and as the trend goes on the change in gravity will also become more distinct.

Yes, that "thousands of people" doesn't even appear in the referenced articles. In the referenced article it's only speculated that IF the strain would escape from the lab there would be serious consequences. That article is about the justification of doing the said research in the first place, but also quotes the original researchers and their findings.

What's professionalism? A job done without emotions, or having the emotions restricted? In the end it wouldn't much differ from working with robots. Or are the emotions a threat because authority figure's emotions can be a sign of a weakness, or do we subconsciously fancy emotionless and calculative psychopaths, for us to let go of the control to somebody else?

There in the very thread he does all he can to help solve the issue and learn more about it. A challenge: find out the Linus expletive and outburst frequency per year.

The time of cheap and unconventional oil is over. Shale and deep water sources are unconventional and they wouldn't be profitable with the oil prices known in the last millennium. Besides in terms of oil used to extract oil they are also more costly.

The most reasonable solution is to move forward from hydrocarbons. That era is soon over and besides the dependency upkeeps certain political trenches. If an oil or energy company is shortsighted they will oppose this, but the companies who develop alternatives will be the market leaders of the future. It's no wonder that the more advanced and rich Middle East countries are heavily investing in solar and renewables. The same names will dominate the energy sector in the coming years.

This is the moment where the ones who don't adapt will not survive.
