That sounds like complete bullshit to me. Got a source for that information? I've had many OTA updates and all of them included vendor supplied bloatware and new "features" for you. Now unless you are speaking of JUST the Nexus branded device (your comment is tough to determine your intent) then that may be true and I would not know as I don't own one. However I would still like to see a source or two. (I will even accept Wikipedia.)

Comment Re:Cutting edge journalism (Score 0) 179

That is what I was thinking. This isn't a Google issue, they most certainly did NOT perform the OTA update. They provide vendors (and probably manufacturers) with the update. They are then supposed to vet the update, ensure all is well, and then do an OTA update. The issue really has (and I'm not trying to make excuses here) nothing whatsoever with Google. Google did their part completely and should not be subject to the blame. The blame rests squarely on the shoulders of the vendor.

Interesting. I have six Pi's that do exactly nothing. All of them have memory cards in place. My goal was to build a cluster for the enjoyment of it but it never got any further then that. Now I may have to take one, or go ahead with clustering first, and then give this a try. It is all automated, right? I won't have to run around with some exactly tuned directional antenna ever time I want to share? I am way too lazy to do that and would give that up in just a few days.

Yup. No Linux version, I've been running nothing but a mix of Linux OSes on my myriad machines and I prefer it. If there's no Linux version there then there is no use for it here. I could boot to Windows but I see no reason to do so simply for a browser that probably spies on me, has few (if any) plug-ins meaning no ad blocker, and will likely eventually try to charge me money, I gave the site a good going-over and did discover an interesting slide show app and will look at that more later as it appears to be similar to to PowerPoint which may have some value at a later date.

Sweet! Much appreciated, I didn't dig any deeper than the TrueCrypt site (I guess I should have). The question is, then, do THEY have any NSA backdoors? There was a time when I'd have simple trusted open source but these days there is so much and so few eyeballs. Either way, I appreciate your reply a great deal. I will play with both later this afternoon when I have a bit more free time.

If your description is accurate then that deserves a day in court, some public apologies, maybe some jail time (simple assaults are usually just fines or MAYBE a weekend in jail), and a loss of his job. A secret, or not so secret I guess, part of me hopes that it went down like that or in some other spectacular way. He does seem to type to not let a good crisis go to waste and HOPEFULLY took full advantage of the opportunity to really tee off on some of the things that he was unhappy with besides catering. Hopefully stories about dead hookers, rampant drug use, and pictures of the producer in VERY non-politically correct and VERY compromising are also released.

It would not only make my day, it would make my month. And, more importantly, I don't care what Clarkson did - it is catering and certainly petty, it will make things even on the scale of true human justice. The only reason you get fired for something to do with catering (unless you are raping them or something) is because they are looking for an opportunity to get rid of you. That's the only reason I can think of at any rate.

I just noticed this question now. I have used NameCheap.com since they were pretty much a brand new ICANN listed registrar. IIRC they were actually just a domain name reseller (through Tucows or Twocows - can't remember how to spell it) way back when and then they moved up the ladder and became actual registrars. That would be when I started using them a great deal.

Stupid question time... Sorry but I must ask.

Umm... Why not save the salt and sell it to off-set the cost of running the plant? People pay good money for sea salt. At that point it should be pretty easy to clean, process, and dispense it, yes? It seems to me that not returning the high salinity water but just using natural evaporation for the remainder (waste product???) and then marketing it would be a viable solution. I may be VERY wrong but I have to ask. That's more than one dumb question but oh well...
