Submission + - Wii lightsaber game in the works (gamasutra.com)

moderatorrater writes: Gamasutra's reporting on a Lucasarts employee answer to a question about a Wii lightsaber game. From the article:

We're all over that, and internally we have already played a lightsaber game on the Wii. It's a lot of fun, and we'll get there.
Hopefully it's more like Jedi Academy than Jedi Power Battles.

Submission + - A Tale of 11 Broken Xbox 360s (1up.com)

hctimo787 writes: Over the past several years, the console wars have heated up considerably, with many pundits hailing the increased competition in the industry as generally good for the consumer. But when deadlines are met with haste, and competition forces product out the door faster than ever, the consumer can still be burned. 1up.com's Philip Kollar writes about Justin Lowe's experience: A Tale of 11 Broken Xbox 360s.

Submission + - Duke Nukem Forever Release Date: 12/1/07! (bestbuy.com)

wiggles writes: It's offical. According to this Best Buy page, Duke Nukem Forever is scheduled for release on December 1st of 2007. Talk about a solution to global warming! All we need to do is find hell, and use the sub-zero temperatures to siphon off our excess heat!

Submission + - Mechanical pong. 1

MicklePickle writes: There's nothing better than retro video games, (IMO), the ultimate retro is something like a pure mechanical pinball or one arm bandit. You can actually go one step further.. Mechanical pong. This guy here has made a purely mechanical version of pong. No computers, no microprocessors, in fact no semiconductors. Just built from wood, plastic, wire, and relays. Pretty impressive. You can pick up the 'how did I make it' video from here.

Submission + - Swedish musicians conduct concert with Wiimotes

An anonymous reader writes: Utilizing some Wiimotes and a GlovePIE script, some Wii fans known as "ii" from Stockholm, Sweden managed to conduct a two-man concert recently. In the embedded video, their song "aa" is performed and we find ourselves to be in a mild state of awe. We just love what people can do with their Wiimotes!

Submission + - Adult Swim guys animate Pacman (superdeluxe.com)

Will writes: "This is a short I saw at SXSW this year. Some Adult Swim guys made a really well done cartoon about Pacman. The best part was afterwards when all the filmmakers spoke about their shorts, and while everyone described the immense costs endured and all the years they spent, these guys said it took them "two weeks and eleven dollars to feed the sound guy". Pretty funny. http://www.superdeluxe.com/sd/contentDetail.do?id= D81F2344BF5AC7BB27B66E8533EED677521D955A021BC5BC"

Submission + - New Duke Nukem Screen?

Conception writes: They really mean business this time. Yesterday a new and crappy scan of Duke Nukem Forever appeared on the 3D Realms forums. The image shows a dark room filled with stuff that can't be expressed properly by a non-hardcore fan like me. After various scan and photoshop jobs however, the first better quality images were uploaded and ... I still can't make out what the hell is going on. Maybe this is a Chinese myth dragon or something, I don't know. Hopefully a high resolution picture will be released soon.

Submission + - Second Earth: When Google Earth meets Second Life (technologyreview.com)

Lucas123 writes: "MIT's Technology Review has a great article on the logical merging of social virtual worlds with the growing number of Web maps in order to create a far more realistic immersive experience. "Neogeography": user-created content, such as travel photos and blog posts, pinned to specific map locations, has created public maps full of details about everything from the history of genocide to spots for romance. 'Google has now built a similar annotation feature directly into Google Maps. "As these two trends continue from opposite directions, it's natural to ask what will happen when Second Life and Google Earth, or services like them, actually meet."'"

Submission + - Coming to toy shelves: 'Halo 3' line by McFarlane (com.com)

Raver32 writes: "With the announcement that Microsoft's upcoming Halo 3-branded Xbox 360 controllers will feature art by Spawn creator Todd McFarlane, it seemed only a matter of time before McFarlane Toys officially took the wraps off a full toy line based on the sci-fi shooter. On Monday, the company did just that, announcing a licensing agreement with Microsoft that should have Halo 3 toys on shelves by spring 2008. McFarlane Toys' foray into the Halo universe will result in five action figures and three vehicles. In addition to the iconic Master Chief (who will sport more than 18 points of articulation), the action figure roster includes a brute chieftain, a jackal sniper, a two-pack of grunts, and the holographic guide Cortana (with light-up action, naturally)."

Submission + - Wii fights PS3: new game every 2 weeks!

destinyland writes: Last week Sony announced they'd release 34 new PS3 games within the next year — but the Wii just struck back. On July 30, after the release of Mario Strikers Charged, Nintendo will release an astounding 12 new Wii games within the next two months. And the release rate for Nintendo DS is even more amazing, with two new games every week from July through September — 36 in all. If the console wars will be won with games — Nintendo just launched a nuclear missile.

Submission + - STEAM 'Hacked', Credit Card Details Stolen

Harv writes: "According to DailyTech, a hacker known as MaddoxX made a posting on an anti-STEAM website about how he successfully bypassed VALVe's security system and stole a significant amount of data mostly regarding VALVe Cafe owners and users' credit card information."
