Journal Journal: Oh come on now 3

I'm not usually one to complain about the mod system. All in all it works well but when a comment with no moderation is marked as overrated that kind of seems like abuse to me.

I thought overrated was to be used if something is modded too high unfairly and you want to bring it back down. It wasn't a troll or flamebate so it got modded overrated as the only "logical" option to mod it down?
Personally, I don't think it deserved that, it provoked thoughtful debate on the topic. It just happens to be an unpopular viewpoint. Did I expect positive moderation from that post? No, not really. It wasn't deeply insightful or interesting but it didn't really need modded down unless some mods did not want the viewpoint shared. I've gotten modded down for nonsensical reasons before and didn't say a thing, but come on. At least use the proper moderation unless it's specifically to silence someone.

Journal Journal: subsection of a subsection

It's amazing to me the number of other /.ers that have MS. It's actually kind of comforting. When I was first diagnosed I told them I wanted to get back to work. Even if half my body didn't work I could still type with one hand and damn it, that was good enough for a code monkey. But, to see the number of us affected with it by having or knowing a person who has it kind of, in a sick way, gives me comfort that I'm not alone in this subgroup of a subgroup.

It's not an easy illness and it's made me rather cynical but hey, fuck it, they aren't going to cure it any time soon so might learn how to live with it. I just hope people are claiming to have it for the sake of karma whoring

Journal Journal: High holy hell!

I knew we where all cynical liberal bastards, but damn! Remarking that just because a bill is passed making the illegal things the NSA did... umm... illegal... isn't a LAW gets me +3 and marked positive! I'm almost scared to post again in fear of losing my new found karma... again... 0_0 though I will say this, the system DOES work here. Idiots are punished and the cream and bastards rise.

Though, I wonder if it creates a singular hive mind. Do we all start to think alike for the sake of positive karma mods? I know if the mods follow the guidelines that they don't punish thoughts they don't agree with. Then again, they are only human and are prone to anyway. How many times have you seen someone marked as a troll or flamebate for having the descending opinion, or just not modded like the parent or positive respondent? Oh well, I shouldn't bitch about a system that's rewarding me.

Journal Journal: Karma be damned...

Well, I'm slowly clawing my way out from under the bridge of troll-dom. I've learned my lesson and have been getting some good mods of late. I'm taking the stance of "Better a quite wisdom then a loud fool". Throwing my pearls out only when I think I can REALLY add to the conversation or that my joke is really funny. At first I was pissed about the Karma system thinking it favored certian people. I mean, yeah, it has a tendency to create a single mindedness among the posters fearing a mod who disagrees with them will mark them troll or over-rated. But, for the most part it keeps the idiots and noobs at bay till we learn how/when a comment should be made. My goal is just getting back to neutral...

Journal Journal: Crap

I just want to know how my comment wound up on the wrong story. Oh well, with my crappy karma it's not like anyone saw it.

Journal Journal: Right, make a note...

Making fun of Yuffie from FF:VII Get a few comments on the joke. Make the "Al Gore Invented the Internet" Joke to a story about "The father of the Internet" get marked troll. Okay, noted.

Man, how does someone get Karma here? You get modded down once for a three minuet lag between you and the guy before you and you're toast. I know ranting and raving won't get me anywhere as much as better thought out comments (and perhaps a spell checker). Or is it better to hold one's tounge untill it is truely important to speak?
