An 80% tint is just insanely dark—darker than the darkest I've ever seen on any building—that's like pimpmobile window tinting dark. Now if you have an electric car and you want your windows darkly tinted, then maybe, though I suspect an 80% tint is illegal in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Not that you care when you're driving along in your tricked-out electric pimpmobile, but.... No, wait....

Perfect for when I open my stripclub.

Out of those 13,000, I closed about 5,000 because the reporters hadn't replied after a certain period of time. It was a cleanup, not proper triage. If we had a quick response time, we probably wouldn't have gotten to 13,000. And unfortunately, without fixing the process, we will be at 13,000 again.

Well don't you think that if even the reporters didn't care about the followup to their bugs it means that either:

  • They didn't care anymore
  • The bug was "fixed" in a sense since they didn't experienced it anymore

Submission + - Will the Space Station be Abandoned in November? (discovery.com)

astroengine writes: "In the wake of the Russian Progress vehicle crash shortly after launch on Aug. 24, a chain of events has been set into motion that could result in the decision not to fly astronauts into orbit. If this happens, the ISS will be temporarily mothballed before the end of the year to avoid landing astronauts during the harsh Kazakh winter."

Submission + - Low Cost DIY Cell Network Runs on Solar (shareable.net)

Shareable writes: "Berkeley professor develops low cost, low power cell base station featuring easy, off-the grid deployment with solar or wind power; local services autonomous from national carriers; and an impressive portfolio of voice & data services (not just GSM). It's designed to connect rural areas in the developing world, but could have wider application like disaster recovery."
Debian

Submission + - Can Debian offer a Constantly Usable Testing distr (raphaelhertzog.com)

ggarron writes: Debian’s “testing” distribution is where Debian developers prepare the next stable distribution. While this is still its main purpose, many users have adopted this version of Debian because it offers them a good trade-off between stability and freshness. But there are downsides to using this distribution and the “Constantly Usable Testing” (CUT) project aims to resolve those. This article will present the project and the challenges involved to make it happen.

Last time I checked, Hong Kong was was transfered to full Chinese control about 13 years ago. So is this some sort of symbolic stunt done for some obscure reason, or is it actually supposed to accomplish something? Saying you're going to defy Chinese control by moving your HQ from Beijing to Hong Kong is like saying you're going to get out from under U.S. control by moving from New York to Chicago.

More like moving to Guam, Northern Marianas, or maybe, Puerto Rico or USVI given the 'non-State' status of those.

I can't change the hard drive, CPU or memory. They say that there is a compatibility issue. What? A bigger hard drive is not compatible with Ubuntu? More memory is not compatible?
Does the manufacture have a agreement with Microsoft to limit Linux/GNU expansion?
Here is the chat I add with DELL: http://pages.infinit.net/binette/dell.html

Submission + - Moon Colonists: Expect 3000ms ping times using Lun (rtfa.net) 1

farkinga writes: Amid the hoopla over Virgin Galactic’s commercial space ship tourism, and considering proof of water on the Moon, the thing that’s on everyone’s mind is obviously the Moon Colony. Would-be Moon colonists need to be aware of this potential deal-breaker: Lunar Internet ping times are going to be very slow – possibly longer than 3 seconds. Are you going to help colonize the Moon, or will you stay on Earth where ping times are acceptably fast?
