Comment This would fix bait and switch adware games (Score 1) 199

It seems to be an increasingly common tactic for games developers to put out an advert-free game, wait for it to gain market share, then force an 'upgrade' that has no improvements at all, but is crammed with so many adverts that the game is barely playable. I deleted "4 words 1 picture" when it turned into "4 words, 1 picture, 1 full screen advert", but I would rather have kept the old, playable version on my phone.

Actually, they are called movies. And I bet that on average, people watch a lot more movies than they read books.

(This is however not a statement of quality, and I guess there are hundreds of nerds who thinks that anectodes equals data which will reply to this and proudly proclaim that they read more books than they watch movies.)

Anathem rewards persistence, it's not an easy book to get into, but if you stick with it, you'll be taken on a seriously impressive journey. There's a strong chance you'll come out the other side thinking it's one of the best books ever written, and that Fraa Jad is... well, I can't say much without spoilers, but he's one of my favourite literary characters ever.

Most of the Affordable Care Act has nothing to do with the web site. The site didn't have to implement those "2.8 million words of Obamacare regulations" as code: it only had to match patients up with insurance plans, which means interacting with dozens (hundreds?) of government and industry databases.

Some states, like California, managed to implement their sites without any of the problems of the federal exchange. The federal exchange mainly suffered from (1) being rushed, and (2) having to deal with a larger number of external systems than any single state exchange.
