Classic Libertarians, no idea about Musk on this, do not mind taxes, paying for libraries or roads or even single payer health-care as they make things more efficient and less expensive (for example) and they do not mind government subsidies that are logical and not long-term. You are PERHAPS confusing them with the many Republicans who were ashamed of the moniker so they claim to be libertarian (note the small L in that) and they really are just Jebus worshiping neocons who co-opted the name of an otherwise sane group of people.

I went to a private school (Kent's Hill if you are curious) and we used to bring our firearms from home and have them on campus - in our own dorm rooms AND unlocked. How the hell else were we supposed to skip and go deer hunting? At a public school we brought our guns to school and often had comparison notes with the principal or interested teachers. Hell, I belonged to the Rifle Team for the last four years of school. That, and heritage, got me to join the Marines (twice 'cause I am an idiot) and make love to that sweet GI Bill to pay for school. That education is why I am retired/retarded today. Guns, they are good for education and business.business. Today, YMMV...

Hey now, I am retired and I don't even take (I think I am old enough now - I have not looked to be honest) the Social Security that I paid in. I don't need it. I have plenty. They can keep their ransom money. They can spend it on someone else seeing as I paid a LOT in.

I can understand distorted thinking and it is an unfortunate (or maybe not) human trait. I have tried so hard to be logical in my dealings that I don't get attached and fear I have missed out on many warm experiences because of this. Yet, when I think back, I have been highly illogical. It is quite a dilemma. The pragmatism, stoic even, traits of my belief system do not help, I am a Buddhist which does not help much.

Submission + - Teen hires hacker to take down school district IT systems (thestack.com)

An anonymous reader writes: A 17-year old boy from Idaho has been accused of paying a hacker to launch DDoS attacks against his school district. The teen reportedly hired a third party to organize a week’s worth of distributed denial-of-service campaigns this month against the West Ada school district – the largest educational district in the state. The cyberattacks affected networks at all 52 schools including payroll, online textbooks, virtual teaching and standardized testing. At the time of the hacking many students were undertaking Idaho Standard Achievement Testing online. The DDoS attacks caused the school systems to lose the test and results data and students were required to re-sit their exams multiple times. According to a report by KTVB-TV News, the teen has been arrested and may face State and Federal computer crime felony charges. If the unnamed student is found guilty he is likely to have to serve up to 180 days in juvenile prison. The suspect has also been suspended from Eagle High and risks potential expulsion. The minor’s parents are being held financially responsible for the damage caused by the attacks.

I am sorry you had to go through that and I wish the world were a better place. I haven't experienced either, I have walked out on a woman who was threatening violence. I paid the police to escort me back to retrieve my belongings. I am not criticizing when I say that it may have been better for you (and potential future victims) if you had reported it. Your choices are your own and I am in no position to judge. Thus the statement is my own thoughts as to what I would suggest if asked. I don't call the cops when there are issues. I did bring one with me to ensure I was not blamed for anything when I retrieved my belongings but I had to pay his salary to get him to do so. It took a half hour but they demand a full hour minimal so it was $35, nothing major.
